December 2, 2018 10:30am Service Large Print Bulletin Welcome to Elk River Lutheran Church! We are a forward-thinking congregation, striving to create community that brings joy and hope. Worshipping together since December 2009, we believe that all people are welcome in the Lord s house, to hear the Word, share the Sacraments, and become strengthened for the life of faith. We are a child friendly congregation and welcome kids with their wiggles and noises in worship. We are also aware that as a parent, time away from wiggles and noises can be a blessing too. You will find our staffed nursery (For children 5 and under) in the far corner of the fellowship hall. We encourage everyone to take a moment to sign the worship registration slip and place it in the offering plate. We hope and pray you have a wonderful worship experience here today and invite you to join us again.

The Gathering of God s People WELCOME COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING THE PEACE The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. GATHERING SONG O Come All Ye Faithful (We Adore You) SORRY NO WORDS AVAILABLE AT TIME OF PRINTING CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, who shines in glory, clothes us in compassion, and bears gifts of mercy for all. Amen. Let us confess our sins with confidence in God s promise of forgiveness. God, wonderful counselor, we confess that we have turned from your gifts and chosen our own way. Remember not our sins;

remember us with your steadfast love. Show us your ways; teach us to walk in your light; and lead us in justice and truth, for the sake of your goodness in Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. Children of God, come with joy and draw water from the well of salvation. Remember the gift of baptism: your sin is washed away in the name of Jesus; you belong to Christ; you are anointed to serve. Stand up and raise your heads! The reign of God is near. Amen. GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. SONG OF PRAISE VERSE 1 Good news of great joy For ev ry woman, ev ry man; This will be a sign to you: My Soul Magnifies the Lord A baby born in Bethlehem. Come and worship, do not be afraid. VERSE 2

A company of angels, Glory in the highest! And on the earth, a peace among Those on whom His favor rests. Come and worship, do not be afraid. My soul, my soul magnifies the Lord, My soul magnifies the Lord. He has done great things for me, Great things for me. VERSE 3 Unto you, a child is born, Unto us, a Son is giv n; Let ev ry heart prepare His throne, And ev ry nation under Heav n; Come and worship, do not be afraid. My soul, my soul magnifies the Lord, My soul magnifies the Lord. He has done great things for me, Great things for me. My soul, my soul magnifies the Lord, My soul magnifies the Lord. He has done great things for me, Great things for me. Prayer of the Day: Let us pray. As days get shorter and Christmas lights go up all around us, focus our attention on the true light of the world, Jesus Christ our savior and Lord. Amen. FIRST READING: Psalm 96

1 O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. 2Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. 4 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 6 Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts. 9 Worship the Lord in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth. 10 Say among the nations, "The Lord is king! The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity." 11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; 12 let the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy 13 before the Lord; for he is coming, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with his truth. Gospel Reading: Luke 1:39-56 39 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, 40 where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary s

greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42 and exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? 44 For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord. 46 And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. 52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever. 56 And Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. P: THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD ALL: PRAISE TO YOU, O CHRIST CHILDREN S MESSAGE

VERSE 3 Jesus, Prince of Peace You were born in a manger Humbled, a poor babay King Glory to God in the highest of heaven The shepherds and angels did sing Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You re my God. You re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me. APOSTLES CREED: I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
