From Pastor to People... It is such a humbling expression of love, joy and gratitude for this special and unique opportunity that God has given us. I ve always known God to be more than amazing, but more importantly I ve watched God do amazing things. I consider this to be a real example of what I call a KINGDOM MOMENT. I m very appreciative to have God place His hand upon me and creatively connect Pastor and people together. I always believe that God is up to something, working behind the scenes even when it seems for us nothing is taking place. We as His people are plotting and planning our own lives, and He is always orchestrating for us how He intends to use us in His kingdom. It is for this reason that this Pathway To Partnership is of essence in our here and now. I ve watched God make us portable, and move us in places that we never imagined. I ve seen Him answer prayers that were uttered and when I expected Him to say no, He continually said yes. I ve paid attention to be clear of His voice by allowing His Word shed light on reality. The only conclusion that I can come to for us being at this place is that it was nothing but God. Its been the guiding of His hand that has brought us to this place. God has been so good, in that the journey here has been masterfully maneuvered so that He alone could receive all the glory. I m very thankful to have so many supportive people, preachers and pastors across this country. God blessed me to serve a very positive, loving, encouraging congregation, Keel Avenue Baptist Church, who has only been encouraging me all the way. I can honestly say my 24 years with them has shown they support the Kingdom of God, and for that I am so very grateful. God has given me a family who continues to help me be used by Him so that His kingdom reigns and not our own. They ve given me the liberty to be God s man and never interfere with what He s doing, and for that I m so grateful. God has given me pastors in my life who consistently communicate encouraging words and prayers to make sure I stay in God s will, and for that I m grateful. God has even allowed the hearing of hurtful comments that only caused me to lean on Him more, and for that I m grateful. There are just so many people who have helped to guide this destination.
I m very appreciative to serve as the 6th Senior Pastor of Hill Chapel Baptist Church. This is a very exciting and enriching opportunity. I clearly understand God s desire that we rise above all that has happened and move forward in faith to the new kingdom opportunities that will come our way. We can build upon the legacy that my friend and beloved brother, Pastor Robert E. Jones started and go even higher. That s part of what makes this partnership even sweeter. To the members of The Hill, as your Pastor I m thankful that God wants to use me as your under-shepherd, to help lead you to maturity, aid you in developing and strengthening relationships, helping you gain greater knowledge of the love of Christ and His purpose for your lives, and facilitating your focus on how important it is to be citizens of God s kingdom. Thank God for this partnership that will help us progress into the people that our Heavenly Father smiles upon. Looking forward to us being GOVERNED BY GOD, GROWING IN GOD and GOING FOR GOD! God s Blessings Be Upon You Robert C. Jones Jr. Senior Pastor

Reflections A Brief Church History Hill Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is a body of Christ's baptized believers, acknowledging him as the head, united in the belief of the gospel, agreeing to maintain its ordinances and obey its precepts; rules and regulations as established by the body itself. Meeting together for worship with one common object: to give vent to the Holy Spirit, to accept the teachings of Christ, and to do what he has commanded. The church experienced five developmental periods during a span of over one hundred years and five pastors. The Founder: Reverend William Harris organized Hill Chapel in 1907 in a tworoom "shotgun" house. He died eight years later. The Establisher: Reverend I. H. Jenkins was elected to the Pastorate of Hill Chapel in 1915. He established a church expansion project to enlarge and remodel the church. He served for twenty-seven years until his death. The Builder: Reverend E. L. Slay became the third pastor of Hill Chapel in 1942. The membership grew rapidly during his tenure and the church affiliated with local, state and national Christian organizations. The church moved into a new $65,000 edifice on July 6, 1952. In 1972, the church completed a $100,000 annex. He pastored for thirty-five years until his death in 1977. The Organizer: Reverend J. L. Armstrong was elected as the fourth pastor on August 21, 1978. With a varied background in Baptist tradition and as a dynamic organizer, he created many new programs and reorganized others. He pastored until May 20, 1984. The Revitalizer: On Monday, May 28, 1984, Reverend Robert Earl Jones, was elected by the church in its entirety, to the position of Interim Pastor. On July 11, 1984, Rev. Robert Earl Jones, a son of Hill Chapel was elected as the church's fifth pastor, and preached his first sermon as pastor on July 15, 1984. At the young age of 26, Rev. Jones accepted the responsibility to pastor at the church where he was raised, baptized, licensed and ordained.
The church has seen phenomenal growth in the last 25 years. Membership has increased from approximately 200 to more than 4,000 members. Additional church services have been implemented under his pastorate. Under his pastorate additional worship services were added, new ministries were implemented, and various community outreach programs have been developed. Crown Financial, Evangelism Explosion, Community Development Corp (CDC) and We Serve are some of the programs and ministries Pastor Jones has put in place. Pastor Jones has also led many sons & daughters while they accepted their call to preach; some of those sons and daughters are now leading their own flocks. In 2004, Hill Chapel celebrated the grand opening of its $8 million edifice. The worship site is located at 4523 Raleigh-LaGrange Road and seats over 2,000 people with future plans to add a chapel, family life center and fellowship hall. Pastor Jones and his wife Harriet were responsible for the conceptualization of the vision of the edifice. Both served as project managers during this monolithic construction project and their efforts were not hampered when the 2521 Dexter Avenue property was completely destroyed by fire on January 18, 2003. It was predestined for Pastor Jones to have a contingency plan for the fire as the church had been meeting for services at Cypress Junior High since May 12, 2002 due to overcrowding at the 2521 Dexter location.
