He is risen indeed! Alleluia! And [we] were dead in [our] trespasses and sins, in which [we] once walked, following the course of this world. (Ephesians 2:1-2) 2
We all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind. We were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind. (Ephesians 2:3) But God being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, Made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved. And raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. In order that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7) Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. CHOIR ANTHEM A Resurrection Declaration EASTER LITANY (From Psalm 16) I say to the Lord, You are my Lord;. SCRIPTURE READING Isaiah 25:6-9 6 On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 7 And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. 9 It will be said on that day, Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. SCRIPTURE READING 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. Reader: Hold fast To What You Have Believed! 4
Alleluia Verse Alleluia Let Praises Ring LSB #822, v. 4 Public Domain GOSPEL READING Mark 16:1-8 The Gospel according to Mark, the 16 th chapter. Glory to You, O Lord. 1 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3 And they were saying to one another, Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb? 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 And he said to them, Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you. 8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. This is the Good News. Do not be Afraid, Jesus our Savior is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! 5

SERMON The Easter Message It s a Mouthful Text: Mark 16:1-8; Isaiah 25:7-8 OFFERING APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen PRAYERS THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen T SERVICE OF THE SACRAMENT T HYMN Alleluia! Jesus is Risen LSB #474, v 1-2 8

If all Jesus had to do was die, then why is Easter such a big deal? Easter is a very important day. Easter is the day that we celebrate Jesus resurrection from the dead. After Jesus was crucified, His disciples were very sad. Everything seemed lost. It seemed like their God and Friend had been defeated and killed. They had even forgotten that Jesus told them He would rise from the dead. They must have thought Mary Magdalene was crazy when she told them Jesus had come to her at the tomb where He was buried. But her story was true! Jesus was alive! He had really risen from the dead! FOR PARENTS Help your children to recognize the different places in our worship where we speak of Jesus resurrection. (The Creed is a good example.) Point out some of the symbols in the sanctuary that might aid in their understanding of the resurrection. Remind them that we join in His resurrection through our Baptism! Later, Jesus appeared to His disciples many times to prove He was alive. And by His resurrection, He proved to the whole world that he was victorious over death and paid for our sins completely. Now, the first words you hear in church on Easter Sunday are: The Lord is risen. He is risen indeed! ALLELUIA! Kids in the Divine Service by Christopher I.
