Welcome in the name of Jesus Christ! We thank God that you have joined us for worship. If you are visiting with us, we thank God you are here and pray our worship together will be a mutual blessing. If you are looking for a church home, we hope Abiding Savior can meet your needs. Please introduce yourself to one of the Pastors. We ask both members and visitors to kindly fill out attendance cards and pass them to the center aisle. The ushers will gather them during the song following the Children s Message. Feel free to add a prayer request for the Pastor to include in the congregational prayer. We love children here at Abiding Savior. Parents are encouraged to sit in the front pews so that young children can see what is happening during worship. If you should want to make use of our cry room or nursery, please ask one of our ushers for directions. Ministers Rev. Dr. Thomas Rogers... Senior Pastor Rev. Glenn Lucas... Associate Pastor Rev. CCLI #5925687 INVOCATION Pastor: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen! CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: All: Pastor: Worshippers are invited to kneel for the Confession and Absolution. Those who desire not to kneel may sit or stand. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. Most merciful God, 2

All: we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, Who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. All: Amen. EPISTLE READING EPHESIANS 2:1-10 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. CONGREGATIONAL SONG How Deep the Father s Love for Us How deep the Father s love for us, How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss, The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the chosen One, Bring many sons to glory. Behold the Man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice, Call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished. I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer. But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom. Repeat Words & Music by Stuart Townend Copyright 1995 Thankyou Music. All Rights Reserved. Used By Permission. CCLI #1558110 3

OLD TESTAMENT READING NUMBERS 21:4-9 From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food. Then the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. And the people came to Moses and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. So Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said to Moses, Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live. So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live. Please stand for the Reading of the Holy Gospel. THE HOLY GOSPEL JOHN 3:14-21 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. [Jesus said:] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been carried out in God. Worshippers are invited to stand and share the peace of the Lord with each other. Children can come down to the chancel steps for the children s message. CHILDREN S MESSAGE Prayer and member/guest cards will be collected during the singing of the following song: CONGREGATIONAL SONG In Christ Alone In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My comforter, my all in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless Babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on the cross, as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied. For ev ry sin on Him was laid; Here in the death of Christ I live. 4

There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain; Then, bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, Sin s curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His and He is mine, Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the pow r of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow r of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home, Here in the pow r of Christ I ll stand! TOM ROGERS APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. GATHERING OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS God doesn t need our money, but in His grace He gives us the privilege to be stewards of everything He has entrusted to our care. We can do more together than separately. As one body in Christ, our congregation has agreed to offer our first fruits to support ministries and missions that enable us to communicate Christ s love to everyone, everywhere; and our love for Him. Your sacrificial gift enables this holy work. CONGREGATIONAL MUSICAL OFFERING Come as You Are Come out of sadness from wherever you've been. Come broken-hearted, let rescue begin. Come find your mercy, O sinner come kneel. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal. Refrain: (So) Lay down your burdens, lay down your shame. All who are broken, lift up your face. O wanderer come home, You're not too far. So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart, Come as you are.
