This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. God has indeed raised from the dead the one who was put to death by hanging him on a tree. Alleluia! God allows Jesus to appear to us who were chosen by God as witnesses in holy baptism and invites us to eat and drink at the table of the risen Christ. Alleluia! P: PASTOR C: CONGREGATION PRELUDE MUSIC: LYNN DYGERT WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, the fountain of living water, the rock who gave us birth, our light and our salvation. C: Amen. P: Let us come into the light, the revealing and healing light of God. Silence is kept for reflection. P: God of grace and glory, C: you have brought us through the night of sin into the light of Jesus resurrection. Yet our lives are still shadowed by sin. Make us alive in Christ, O God. Make us new as you make all things new. Rescue us from evil and the gloom of sin, renew us in grace, and restore us to living in your holiness, through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen. P: Rejoice with all creation around God s throne! The light of the risen Christ puts to flight all evil deeds, washes away sin, restores innocence to the fallen, casts out hate, brings peace, and humbles earthly pride. GATHERING SONG: JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN TODAY ELW 344 GREETING P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. CANTICLE OF PRAISE 4

PRAYER OF THE DAY P: Let us pray C: God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The assembly is seated. WORD FIRST READING: ACTS 10:34-43 Peter s sermon, delivered at the home of Cornelius, a Roman army officer, sums up the essential message of Christianity. Everyone who believes in Jesus, whose life, death, and resurrection fulfilled the words of the prophets, receives forgiveness of sins through his name. 34 Peter began to speak to [the people]: I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ he is Lord of all. 37 That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39 We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; 40 but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. The word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. 5

PSALM 118:1-2, 14-24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps. 118:24) 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for the LORD is good; God s mercy en- dures forever. 2 Let Israel now declare, God s mercy en- dures forever. 14 The LORD is my strength and my song, and has become my salvation. 15 Shouts of rejoicing and salvation echo in the tents of the righteous: The right hand of the LORD acts valiantly! 16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted! The right hand of the LORD acts valiantly! 17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. 18 The LORD indeed pun- ished me sorely, but did not hand me o- ver to death. 19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them and give thanks to the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD; here the righ- teous may enter. 21 I give thanks to you, for you have answered me and you have become my salvation. 22 The stone that the build- ers rejected has become the chief cornerstone. 23 By the LORD has this been done; it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. 6

SECOND READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:19-26 Paul describes the consequences of the resurrection, including the promise of new life in Christ to a world that has been in bondage to death. He celebrates the destruction of evil and the establishment of God s victorious rule over all. 19 If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. 20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. 21 For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; 22 for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. The word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. The assembly stands to welcome the gospel. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION P: THE PROCLAMATION OF THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAINT LUKE. C: GLORY TO YOU, O LORD. 7

GOSPEL LUKE 24:1-12 Evidently expecting to find Jesus corpse, some of his women followers go to the tomb with embalming spices. After a perplexing encounter with the empty tomb and angelic visitors, the women become the first to proclaim the amazing news of resurrection. 1 On the first day of the week, at early dawn, [the women] came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in, they did not find the body. 4 While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. 5 The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. 6 Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again. 8 Then they remembered his words, 9 and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened. The gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. The assembly is seated. CHILDREN S MESSAGE SERMON -- PASTOR DARYL EMOWREY HYMN OF THE DAY: CHRIST IS RISEN! ALLELUIA! ELW 336 The assembly stands to proclaim the word of God in song. 8

HOLY BAPTISM P: In baptism our gracious heavenly Father frees us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen humanity; by water and the Holy Spirit we are reborn children of God and made members of the church, the body of Christ. Living with Christ and in the communion of saints, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God. Sponsor: I present Arya for baptism. P: Called by the Holy Spirit, trusting in the grace and love of God, do you desire to have your child baptized into Christ? R: we do. P: As you bring your child to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities: to live with her among God s faithful people, bring her to the word of God and the holy supper, teach her the Lord s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, place in her hands the holy scriptures, and nurture her in faith and prayer, so that she may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace. Do you promise to help her grow in the Christian faith and life? R: We do. P: Sponsors, do you promise to nurture these persons in the Christian faith as you are empowered by God s Spirit, and to help them live in the covenant of baptism and in communion with the church? R: We do. P: People of God, do you promise to support Daphne and pray for her in her new life in Christ? C: We do. Please stand P: I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church. Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God? R: We renounce them. P: Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God? R: We renounce them. P: Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God? R: We renounce them. P: Do you believe in God the Father? C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. P: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? 9

C: I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. P: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? C: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. P: We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family, and through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus death and resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to live in you. Pour out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that those who are washed in the waters of baptism may be given new life. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. C: Amen. Please be seated P: (pour) Arya, I baptize you in the name of the Father, (pour) and of the Son, (pour) and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. C: You belong to Christ, in whom you have been baptized. Alleluia P: Let us pray. We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give your daughters and sons new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise them to eternal life. Sustain Arya with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. C: Amen. 10

P: Arya, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. C: Amen. P: Jesus said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have the light of life. Let us welcome the newly baptized. C: We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God s creative and redeeming word to all the world. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION After each intercession: P: Hear us, O God. C: Your mercy is great. P: We lift these prayers to the One whom God exalted, and gave the name above every other name, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. C: Amen PEACE P: The peace of Christ be with you always. C: And also with you. MEAL An offering is gathered for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need and the table is set. After the offering is gathered, the assembly stands. OFFERING OFFERING SONG: CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART ELW 186 OFFERING PRAYER P: Let us pray C: Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. 11

DIALOGUE P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. PREFACE P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, for the glorious resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, the true Paschal Lamb who gave himself to take away our sin; who in dying has destroyed death, and in rising has brought us to eternal life. And so, with Mary Magdalene and Peter and all the witnesses of the resurrection, with earth and sea and all their creatures, and with angels and archangels, cherubim and seraphim, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY 12

THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE P: Holy, mighty and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension we await his coming in glory. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. C: Amen. LORD'S PRAYER P: Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us. C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. INVITATION TO COMMUNION (ALTAR) All who thirst, all who hunger, come and be filled with the goodness of God.
