Children Sabbath School Lesson #131 for 6-13-2015 Song for opening the Sabbath School: 1 Safely through another week God has brought us on our way; Let us now a blessing seek, Waiting in His courts today; Day of all the week the best, Emblem of eternal rest: Day of all the week the best, Emblem of eternal rest. Hymn #384 Safely Through another Week 2 While we seek supplies of grace, Thro the dear Redeemer s name, Show Thy reconciling face; Take away the sin and shame: From our worldly cares set free, May we rest this day in Thee: From our worldly cares set free, May we rest this day in Thee. 3 When the more shall bid us rise, May we feel Thy presence near; May Thy glory meet our eyes, While we in Thy house appear: Here afford us, Lord, a taste of our everlasting feast: Here afford us, Lord, a taste of our everlasting feast. 4 May the gospel s joyful sound Conquer sinners, comfort saints; Make the fruits of grace abound, Bring relief to all complaints: Thus may all our Sabbaths be, till we rise to reign with Thee. Thus may all our Sabbaths be, till we rise to reign with Thee. Opening Prayer requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer Lesson #131: Thou Canst Make Me Clean, Part 5 Psalms 33:9 (KJV) For he spake, and it was [done]; he commanded, and it stood fast. This week boys and girls, we will end with part 5 in our lesson entitle, Thou Canst Make Me Clean of our study book Desire of Ages! Mark 2:9 (KJV) Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, [Thy] sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? Mark 2:10 (KJV) But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) Mark 2:12 (KJV) And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion. 1John 3:8 (KJV) He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. John 1:4 (KJV) In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 10:10 (KJV) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly. 1 Corinthians 15:45 (KJV) And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening spirit. Psalms 103:3 (KJV) Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#131 (6.13.15) Page 1
Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #27, page 269-271 Then he who had been borne on a litter to Jesus rises to his feet with the elasticity and strength of youth. The life-giving blood bounds through his veins. Every organ of his body springs into sudden activity. The glow of health succeeds the pallor of approaching death. "And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion." {DA 269.3} Oh, wondrous love of Christ, stooping to heal the guilty and the afflicted! Divinity sorrowing over and soothing the ills of suffering humanity! Oh, marvelous power thus displayed to the children of men! Who can doubt the message of salvation? Who can slight the mercies of a compassionate Redeemer? {DA 269.4} Question: What were the actions born within the paralytic man s body when Jesus raised him to his feet? And, what stooped to heal the guilty and the afflicted ones? Answer: The life-giving blood bounds through his veins. Every organ of his body springs into sudden activity. The glow of health succeeds the pallor of approaching death. And, the wondrous love of Christ. Song: Let s learn a beautiful song about, The Wondrous Love Of Jesus dear ones! The Wondrous Love Of Jesus dear ones Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace. In the mansions bright and blessed He'll prepare for us a place. https://youtu.be/bdmcde0uzmc It required nothing less than creative power to restore health to that decaying body. The same voice that spoke life to man created from the dust of the earth had spoken life to the dying paralytic. And the same power that gave life to the body had renewed the heart. He who at the creation "spake, and it was," who "commanded, and it stood fast," (Psalm 33:9), had spoken life to the soul dead in trespasses and sins. The healing of the body was an evidence of the power that had renewed the heart. Christ bade the paralytic arise and walk, "that ye may know," He said, "that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins." {DA 269.5} The paralytic found in Christ healing for both the soul and the body. The spiritual healing was followed by physical restoration. This lesson should not be overlooked. There are today thousands suffering from physical disease, who, like the paralytic, are longing for the message, Thy sins are forgiven. The burden of sin, with its unrest and unsatisfied desires, is the foundation of their maladies. They can find no relief until they come to the Healer of the soul. The peace which He alone can give, would impart vigor to the mind, and health to the body. {DA 270.1} Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#131 (6.13.15) Page 2
Question: What was required to restore health to a decaying body as well as renew the heart? And, what did the paralytic find in Christ? Answer: It required nothing less than creative power. The same power that gave life to the body had renewed the heart. And he found healing for both the soul and the body. The spiritual healing was followed by physical restoration. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. In Him was life, and He says, I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. He is a quickening spirit. 1 John 3:8; John 1:4; 10:10; 1 Corinthians 15:45. And He still has the same life-giving power as when on earth He healed the sick, and spoke forgiveness to the sinner. He forgiveth all thine iniquities, He healeth all thy diseases. Psalm 103:3. {DA 270.2} The effect produced upon the people by the healing of the paralytic was as if heaven had opened, and revealed the glories of the better world. As the man who had been cured passed through the multitude, blessing God at every step, and bearing his burden as if it were a feather's weight, the people fell back to give him room, and with awe-stricken faces gazed upon him, whispering softly among themselves, "We have seen strange things today." {DA 270.3} Question: What are the things Jesus came to do? And, what was the effect produced upon the people by the healing of the paralytic? Answer: Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly, heal all thy diseases and to forgive all thine iniquities. And, It was as if heaven had opened, and revealed the glories of the better world. Song: Let s learn a scripture song together dear ones, from the book of John! John 1:1-5, 9-11 (KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. [That] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. The Pharisees were dumb with amazement and overwhelmed with defeat. They saw that here was no opportunity for their jealousy to inflame the multitude. The wonderful work wrought upon the man whom they had given over to the wrath of God had so impressed the people that the rabbis were for the time forgotten. They saw that Christ possessed a power which they had ascribed to God alone; yet the gentle dignity of His manner was in marked contrast to their own haughty bearing. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#131 (6.13.15) Page 3
They were disconcerted and abashed, recognizing, but not confessing, the presence of a superior being. The stronger the evidence that Jesus had power on earth to forgive sins, the more firmly they entrenched themselves in unbelief. From the home of Peter, where they had seen the paralytic restored by His word, they went away to invent new schemes for silencing the Son of God. {DA 270.4} Question: How did the wonderful work wrought upon the man so impress the people that the rabbis were for the time forgotten? Answer: They saw that Christ possessed a power which they had ascribed to God alone; yet the gentle dignity of His manner was in marked contrast to their own haughty bearing. Physical disease, however malignant and deep-seated, was healed by the power of Christ; but the disease of the soul took a firmer hold upon those who closed their eyes against the light. Leprosy and palsy were not so terrible as bigotry and unbelief. {DA 271.1} In the home of the healed paralytic there was great rejoicing when he returned to his family, carrying with ease the couch upon which he had been slowly borne from their presence but a short time before. They gathered round with tears of joy, scarcely daring to believe their eyes. He stood before them in the full vigor of manhood. Those arms that they had seen lifeless were quick to obey his will. The flesh that had been shrunken and leaden-hued was now fresh and ruddy. He walked with a firm, free step. Joy and hope were written in every lineament of his countenance; and an expression of purity and peace had taken the place of the marks of sin and suffering. Glad thanksgiving went up from that home, and God was glorified through His Son, who had restored hope to the hopeless, and strength to the stricken one. This man and his family were ready to lay down their lives for Jesus. No doubt dimmed their faith, no unbelief marred their fealty to Him who had brought light into their darkened home. {DA 271.2} Question: What diseases of the soul have a firmer hold upon those who close their eyes against the light than Leprosy and Palsy? And, how thankful were the paralytic man and his family and what were they willing to do for Jesus? Answer: Bigotry and unbelief were more terrible. And, this man and his family were ready to lay down their lives for Jesus. No doubt dimmed their faith, no unbelief marred their fealty to Him who had brought light into their darkened home. Song: Let s learn our last scripture song dear ones, from the book of Hebrews! Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 2-We Are Assured of Life Everlasting Narrated by our dear Brother Graves! Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14. {SD 47.1} The affections of the pleasure lover are drawn away from heavenly to earthly things. He subordinates the glories of eternity to the engrossing interests of time. In his desire to possessearthly riches, the heavenly treasure is lost from view. The claims of the future life are disregarded, and the interests of this life hold sway.... {SD 47.2} Christ brings the nobler world to view. He presents the advantages of citizenship in that city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. He takes us to the threshold of infinity, and shows us its glories, declaring them to be within the reach of all who will live in harmony with the laws of God. Through obedience to the laws of Jehovah, the human family may become a united, happy family in the city of God; but there is no room there for those who have no regard for the will of the Lord. All who will may gain everlasting life, but they must gain it by accepting the law of God as their guide in this life instead of seeking to follow their own laws.... To those who will live a life that is in harmony with the Father, Christ will impart the virtues of His life. {SD 47.3} Think ye that the commandment-keepers will be sorry, and mourn when the pearly gates of the Golden City of God are swung back upon their glittering hinges, and they are welcomed in? No, never. They will then rejoice, that they are not under the bondage of the law, but that they have kept God's law, and therefore are free from it. They will have right to the tree of life, a right to its healing leaves. {SD 47.4} The God of heaven has placed a benediction upon them that keep the commandments of God. {SD 47.5} He who has been faithful over the few things of earth, will be made ruler over many things in the eternal world of glory. {SD 47.6}.
