Dear Parishioners, Today is the first Sunday of Advent and therefore the first Day of the New Church Year. The readings for the first two weeks of Advent focus upon the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the second two weeks the readings focus upon the celebration of the remembrance of the Birth of Christ. We can enhance our spiritual lives during this time by a variety of means: spiritual readings, prayers, receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, more frequent daily Mass attendance and works of charity. In the second reading from the first letter of Paul to the Thessalonians, St. Paul writes that he desires, the Lord make you overflow with love for one another and for all. It would be great if love would overflow from each of us to one another and for all? The world of humankind would be so much different than it is today! If each of us could continually think of the fact that we will have our last hour of life on earth and die then each of us would find that our thoughts, words and actions would be different at times. The birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and His promise that we too shall die and rise from the dead can give us a positive perspective about our lives. I really don t know what the ultimate meaning of life must be for those that do not believe in God when they think upon their upcoming death in the future. They probably rarely or never think of their own deaths or they would seek to find the ultimate source of life itself - God. Let us overflow with love for one another and for all so that our lives as Christians will have the purpose and meaning that God desires for our lives and that we will overflow with the Love of God and His Kingdom. Land of Peace is a nonprofit organization with the mission of helping and supporting Christian families in the Holy Land through the Patriarch of Jerusalem. When anyone purchases handmade arts they help their mission and help the Christians in the Holy Land. In 1920 the Christian population in the Holy Land was 80%; today it is less than 2%. With the parish support and the parishioner s generosity we are able to help our brothers and sisters to live in Jesus land of birth. Land of Peace s goal is to build a charity hospital in the Holy Land. Life Teen Gift Card Fundraiser Life Teen members will be taking orders for gift cards for a wide variety of stores through Dec. 2. These cards make a great Christmas gift or you can use them for your own Christmas shopping! Benton County Toy Shop The Benton County Toy Shop is accepting donations of new toys. Popular items requested are: Legos, arts & crafts, baby dolls, action figures, and board games. There is a box in the vestibule for your donations. Mass/Parish Activities Cancelation Due to Weather During the weekdays from Monday to Friday if Benton Community School Corporation cancels school for the day then there will be no Mass or parish activities on those days. If there is only a two hour delay we will have Mass. If there is a travel warning declared of no traveling except for emergency management workers then there will be no Mass or parish activities for the day all days of the week including Sundays.
