Growing God s Family Saint Mark Messenger Mission Statement Here at St. Mark s Lutheran Church and From the Pastor From the Pastor June 2018 March 2015 Preschool, we believe in Growing God s Family. You will see this mission statement on our bulletins, business cards, newsletter and other printed correspondence. New nametags are also available. Inside this issue: Food Bank 2 Summer Reading Program 3 Camp Lutherhoma 3 Vacation Bible School 3 Cleaning Teams 6 Greetings in the Name of our Risen Christ! The transition from May to June is traditionally seen as a time when things slow down a bit for us. Schools let out for the summer, families are planning or enjoying vacations (some blessed folks are given a trip to Germany!), and as the temperatures go up, we slow down. But when it comes to the mission and work of the church, there really is no break. Every day God calls us to be faithful, to be loving, and to be spreading His Word. One way we will be doing this is our Pre-School. We will continue to work with our little people in our Mother's Day Out in June and July. You are invited, as part of your summer plans, to take part in our summer reading program here at St. Mark. As a congregation, we are going to try and read the whole Bible. More details will be found in the pages beyond this paragraph... I also want to encourage all of us during these summer months to make sure we are still attending church services. If you are going on a vacation this summer, and wish to know where a church is at your vacation destination, let me know and I will get you that information. And on Sundays when you are in town, remember that while school may be out, church will not be. We need to, we GET to be fed by the gifts of Jesus that are offered in Word and Sacrament every week of the year, EVERY Sunday. The Lord is Risen! He IS Risen Indeed!

Our volunteer day at the Regional Food Bank is Saturday, June 2 from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon. We would love to have a large group attend. There are both standing and sitting jobs for everyone. Closed-toed shoes must be worn. No flip-flops or sandals. Zion OKC will be buying lunch for all who volunteer. We will be eating lunch at Incredible Pizza located on MacArthur & Northwest Expressway. (5833 Northwest Expy., OKC) We will caravan up there immediately following our volunteer time. We have a separate room reserved where we can all sit in the same location. In case you have not been there, it is an all you can eat place; pizza, baked potato, tacos, hot dogs, pasta, soups, desserts, ice cream, drinks, and a crispy salad bar. Volunteering at the Food Bank is a lot of fun and great fellowship for all. Contact Sheila if you are interested in participating. 2

Preschool open enrollment We offer a Summer and a Fall program for 12 months of age through entering Kindergarten and we still have openings for the fall. The summer program is completely full. Check out the church website for enrollment forms and tuition pricing. Summer Reading Program We met our goal of reading 6,000 chapters of the Bible as a congregation in a single summer last year. This summer, we are going to go for 7,000 chapters read. You can read whatever chapters of the Bible you like this summer and then each week give us your chapter totals, did you read 5, 10, just a couple? It doesn t matter, all will go on our In The Word This Summer chart in the Narthex as we try to achieve 7,000 chapters read between Memorial Day and Labor Day. So if 10 of you are reading the same chapters, it all counts towards the total. Kids, youth, adults everyone can read and record their totals. The chart and log sheets are in the narthex. 3
