October 2016 words of Confirmation Kick-Off! Oct. 2 We are thrilled to announce the beginning of Confirmation classes this October here at Hope. These classes will be offered to 7th and 8th graders, as well as other students who have not had an opportunity yet. A Confirmation Advisory Team has been and will continue to direct and lead these classes, as well as other various responsibilities in our confirmation process. Our Advisory Team includes Pastor Keith, Rachel Lassen, Kathy Armbrust, Jake Olson, and Jessica Neupauer. Jessica and Rachel will be co-teaching Confirmation classes that will be held every other Sunday night from 6-8 pm. Pastor Keith will be joining classes and retreats on a regular basis offering a pastor s perspective on the material. Jake and Kathy will be helping in other various roles including communication to parents, etc. Our Kick-off for Confirmation will be Oct. 2 after church and Confirmation classes will begin Sun. Oct. 9. Confirmation in the Covenant Church is designed to be a systematic exploration of God s work, the history of our faith, and the importance of living a Christian life. Confirmation classes are aimed at introducing our youth to come face to face with the call of Jesus. We are also excited to include mentors in our students Confirmation journey. Our goal is for students to develop one-one-one discipling relationships with their mentor and pastors. We are thrilled for this opportunity to pour into our young people and help them grow as Christ followers. Please pray for our leaders and students as we begin to embark on this journey. Pastor Keith, Jessica, Rachel, Jake, and Kathy Winter Wear Donations One of the missions of Hope Covenant Church is to build relationships with SCSU International Students. If you are able to donate new or gently used winter coats, boots, hats, or gloves, please leave them in the box in the Welcome Center. Occasionally, there are also particular furniture needs. If you have an item you would like to see if it can be donated or is useful, please ask Ruth Kaczor, Mission Chair, at 249-8050 ruth.kaczor10@gmail.com (Please do not leave any furniture at the church.) Youth Ministry News Rachel Lassen, Youth & Worship rachel@hopecovenant.org 7 th -12 th graders Wednesdays ~ We had a fun, crazy, magnificent time at our Youth Group Kick-off Sep. 21st! We are beginning to dig deeper into the different seasons of feeling close or far away from God. We are looking at our purpose as a as well as how we must strive to stay close to our Source. October Events We have a ton of awesome events planned for October including going to the Apollo vs. Tech High School football game (Oct. 7), the LBBC FORGE weekend youth retreat on Oct. 14-16, a girl s only huddle at Rachel s house, and a Halloween party. Be sure to grab a calendar so you can stay in the loop! Thank you to our wonderful adult volunteers that have helped get our up and running this year. Connect Wanting to stay connected with all the Hope Youth Group happenings? Email Rachel to get on the Youth email list. See our Facebook Youth Page (Hope Covenant Youth) that has more details on Youth Group events. I have already been so encouraged by our youth at Hope. Their willingness to engage in tough conversations, serve, and their spirit of funloving energy has been wonderful to be a part of. Please pray for our youth as they are growing as people and believers. Please also pray for our youth leaders. With joy, Rachel Forge Retreat: October 14-16 Lake Beauty Bible Camp -- grades 7-12th. Get away and grow in your faith. To register, visit www.lbbc.com Check in: Friday 6-8 pm. Concludes: Sunday noon. Cost $135 after 10/1 Includes meals & lodging in Eagle Ridge heated cabins (for Paintball, bring $15)... from Pastor Keith Exciting days at Hope this fall! First, we welcome to staff, Rachel Lassen, our new Worship and Youth Director! Rachel is off to a great start meeting and practicing with the worship teams, getting to know our youth, a great Kick- Off Night and even starting up Covenant Confirmation, The Journey, Covenant curriculum again! Please pray for our Confirmation Leadership Team (Rachel Lassen, Kathy Armbrust, Jessica Neupauer, Jake Olson, and Pastor Keith) and the 10 or more students and their parents, and for adult mentors. Will you consider being a mentor for our confirmation youth? This fall Small Groups are studying 2 Corinthians. The five themes of 2 Corinthians (Redemptive Suffering, Joyful Gratitude, Flourishing Maturity, Strong Vulnerability, Transforming Habits) are ones that I think match the new phase of vitality we are praying for going from Stable to Healthy Missional! That means being generative and we are seeing that in the increase of under-represented demographic at Hope youth involved and engaged in youth group and worship, new and young singles & couples participating in a SS class, and more International SCSU students involved. Stay tuned for an exciting ministry year in 2016-2017. We are planning on hosting a workshop on Sandwich Age Life Challenges for us Boomers who have both, the joy of grand parenting and the challenges of care for elderly parents. We had a great staff retreat sharing how God is moving in our lives and praying for each other. What a privilege to serve the family of mission friends at Hope!
