5th November 2017 All Saints In Memoriam Welcome to St Petri this morning. It is good to be gathered not only with those we can see but also with the great cloud of witnesses that surround us and urge us on to remain faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ. It is All Saints Day and we, by God s grace in Jesus, received by faith are all saints! This morning we catch a glimpse of those starling images of God s life beyond our human experience as told by the Apostle John in his Revelation. We hear of the Lamb of God seated in glorious light among a community of people from every conceivable place and of every human race. This Lamb of God who has taken away the sin of the world by his own sacrificial death and glorious resurrection to life, is now the shepherd of this vast timeless community. The Sheep has become the Shepherd! But what of us and what of now? I, with others, stood around a grave this week. We watch the coffin of a loved one lower into the grave and as usual, were prompted by this to ponder our own life, death, experience and future. Ponder these things today. They are important to ponder on All Saints Day. But please do so with this truth of the resurrected Lamb who sprung up from this grave who is now our shepherd. Join the full throng, wake, harp and psalter and song today, for it is so much better when the grave is not final. Peace, Pastor Adrian

Reformation @ Redeemer On Friday the 27 th October the Redeemer school community celebrated the 500 th anniversary of Luther s nailing of his 95 Theses to the church door at Wittenberg. Our Reformation celebrations began with Worship in the morning and also included the eating of cupcakes at recess followed by a Longest Lutheran Lunch event out on the oval at lunchtime. On behalf of the Redeemer school community we would like to thank all of the volunteers who came and helped make and decorate the cupcakes for all of us on Thursday 26 th at St. Petri Hall. They were delicious and certainly helped spread the message and significance of the events of the Reformation with our community. A tremendous example of our local church family working with our school community in intergenerational mission. Again, thank you Nathan Schultz (Spiritual Development Coordinator @ Redeemer)

MISSING STATUE OF CHRIST The old St Petri Church, which was demolished in the 1960's, had a white statue of Christ on the altar for several decades. As part of our 150th celebrations, we would love to find the statue. It was probably about 40cm high (18 inches) Do you know what happened to it? Its last known location was on the altar in the Sunday School rooms in the late 1970's, as shown in the photo. Did it get broken? Did someone take it home for safe-keeping? Please phone Luke Rothe 85621407, or see the office staff, if you have any information. I am looking forward to next weekend s 150 th Anniversary celebrations. I feel that it is such a privilege to be part of this long St Petri story. It is a good story. As a result of serving for a mere six years out of one hundred and fifty, and reading the new, soon to be available, short history of St Petri, I reckon that St Petri has always embraced the times and adapted to try and serve this community. Sometimes this has taken a long time but eventually this congregation seems to get there. As a result, the story of faithful, creative, energetic mission and ministry as a larger congregation continues on. It will be a great weekend! Soon we will be on that familiar journey to Christmas and sing those Advent songs and pray those Advent prayers again. This Christmas is a little tricky because Christmas Day is on a Monday, as is New Year s Eve. We have adapted our worship schedule to try and not wear people out. You will notice a Combined Service for Christmas Day and the Sunday before New Year s Day. However, we have also tried to deal with a heart-breaking problem we have seen happen for at least three out of the last six years parents with children either coming to the Christmas Eve Service, seeing that it is full and then leaving to go elsewhere because there is literally nowhere to sit, or hearing that some of them don t even consider coming to their own church for Christmas Eve because they know what it is like. They do not want to get to church forty minutes prior to worship and manage young children for that long, and then have to keep doing that for the hour that the actual Service takes! You will notice that we have two services on Christmas Eve this year. They at 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm and they are simply repeated, with blended music in both. This is the year you might like to assure families you know that they will be able to arrive just prior to the Service and be able to sit somewhere and enjoy being together at Christmas at St Petri. The Book of Reports available now for our upcoming AGM on November 26 will make for good reading. Grab a copy and enjoy finding out what we have been up to and what the future may hold. The Spirit of God is leading us. We are better together as Jesus co-workers in mission! In his Peace Pastor Adrian
