Week YEAR 8- Social Studies Term 1 plan 2016-2017 1 Introduction Students are given an overview of year 8 Social Studies and learning outcomes. Classroom expectations are made clear to students. Students have a general discussion of Kuwait and the 2 The geography of the Islamic World Defining the Islamic world and locating Islamic countries on a world map. Why the Islamic world is a link between the rest of the world. Students will look at some of the Islamic countries of Asia and note their population. All activities from the activity workbook to be completed. 3-4 The geography of the Islamic World Students will look at some of the Islamic countries of Africa and Europe. Looking at countries where Muslims are a minority. 4-5 The Life of the Arabs in Pre-Islamic times. Students will learn about life before Islam in the Arab world. The climate and surface features. How trade routes developed and the goods that were traded in pre-islamic times. Agriculture. What were the political and religious conditions before the spread of Islam? 5-6 The emergence of Islam Students will be introduced to the origins of Islam and the mission of the Prophet (PBUH). The birth of Islam in Mecca.

6-7 The emergence of Islam Students will learn about the establishment of the Islamic state in Medina. Key events in the life of the Prophet (PBUH) The treaty of Hudaybiya. 8-9 The emergence of Islam The unification of the Arabian peninsula. Learn about the conquest of Mecca and the Holy battle of Tabuk. What are some of the solutions to these problems. 2 Relationship between Kuwait and the 3 Relationship between Kuwait and the 4 Relationship between Kuwait and the Kuwait s distinctive role at the Islamic conferences. Kuwait since liberation. 7 Project work and student presentations Power point presentations by students on the topics covered in term 3. Students will be divided in to groups and each group will present a topic. 8 Revision and Preparation for end of year exams and assessment. 9 Final examination Starts
