The unit president and secretary must sign the entry frm unless the nminee is ne f them, in which case a past unit president must sign the entry frm.

SALUTE TO SERVICEWOMEN AWARD NOMINATION FORM Established in 2003, this award has evlved frm hnring wmen veterans t hnring wmen wh are currently serving ur cuntry in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Crps, Air Frce, and Cast Guard including the Natinal Guard and Reserve cmpnents f each branch. One servicewman frm each branch f service will be recgnized at the American Legin Auxiliary Natinal Cnventin. Recipients attend the Natinal Cnventin as guests f the Auxiliary. Nminatin Criteria: A wman currently serving in the U.S. Armed Frces (includes Natinal Guard/Reserve). A written narrative r YuTube vide that demnstrates exemplary service bth in and ut f unifrm, making her the face f wmen in the military. Servicewman must be willing t be a guest f the Auxiliary and speak t the general assembly f the American Legin Auxiliary Department and Natinal Cnventins. All nminatin frms must be submitted by May 15, 2019. Next Steps: The nminating persn r the servicewman writes a narrative (750 wrds r less) r creates a YuTube vide (3 minutes r less) that shws the nminated servicewman demnstrating exemplary service bth in and ut f unifrm, making her the face f wmen in the military. Intrduce her t the president and ther members in attendance. Ask her t share a little abut herself. The infrmatin culd be helpful in determining in which cmmittee she may have the greatest interest. Have each attendee intrduce herself. As each prgram reprt is given, request that the chairman explain the purpse f the prgram and hw the unit supprts it. Explain the duties f the fficers, the chairmen and the cmmittee members. Help maintain a psitive attitude and assist in aviding cntrversy during the meeting. Interject sme ccasinal humr t help make the meeting fun. A prspective member is mre likely t jin if she feels she is jining an rganizatin that is fun and whse activities supprt the cmmunity. All members will be mre willing t attend meetings and assist with activities if the meetings are shrt and interesting. Remind the members t try new ideas withut criticism if they fail. Suggest trying smething else. Help keep the meeting mving tward a psitive cnclusin. Evaluate yur new member s capabilities. If yu feel she is ready t participate, ask her which f the prgrams hlds her greatest interest. Discurage naming a new member as an fficer r a chairman, but instead suggest she be given the pprtunity f wrking n a cmmittee with an experienced chairman. Let her knw yu are willing t mentr her and assist by answering her questins. Remember t praise her effrts. Past presidents shuld advise when asked, but preferably nt serve as a chairman. Chairmanships shuld be held by ther members s they may learn the prgrams and becme gd unit leaders wh may develp an interest in mving int district, cunty r department psitins. As a past president, yu may wish t prmte the nminatin f a Unit Member f the Year. Yu may take the lead in recmmending servicewmen t submit fr an award. Develp a fundraising activity fr dnatins t the nursing schlarship prgram. Cntinue t supprt new and current members thrugh yur nging leadership!

These grups can cntinue their supprt f the rganizatin by using their experience, knwledge and wisdm t be gdwill ambassadrs and t strengthen ur rganizatin and help maintain its grwth. PPPs can play an imprtant part in the mentring f current members t develp knwledgeable leadership within the department. They can supprt and assist in a recruitment effrt fr new members. They are encuraged t select a missin-utreach prject f interest and supprt the prgram with time and/r financial cntributins. They may chse t have a curtesy fund and chairman t remember past presidents when the need arises. They shuld make themselves available t current fficers as well as ptential candidates fr ffice. Their guidance and cnstructive feedback shuld help the department maintain cntinuity and gd cperatin. This grup culd hld a lunchen during department meetings t share current department news. They may chse t dnate r raise funds fr ex-servicewmen and PPP nurses schlarships. They may discuss making specific dnatins r hw they culd assist with issues within their department t help create a psitive result. A discussin culd be held abut ideas fr prpsing a reslutin t help clarify a questinable Cnstitutin & Bylaws article. They may decide t take a leadership rle regarding a prpsal frm the natinal rganizatin. Sme members f the Parley may be serving at the natinal level. They culd invite the current department president and any natinal guest wh may be in attendance at their meeting. Yur knwledge can be invaluable n the department s Finance Cmmittee, as PPP chairman, r as parliamentarian, if appinted. Cntinue t be invlved: Yu are a valuable department member.

HOW TO HOST A NATIONAL-LEVEL VISITOR AT YOUR DEPARTMENT Cmmittee: Past Presidents Parley Cntact Infrmatin fr Questins: pastpresidentsparley@alafrveterans.rg Suggestins fr hsting a natinal-level visitr at yur department Make sure all pre-visit frms are filled ut cmpletely and crrectly. The natinal president s frm requests detailed infrmatin regarding events, expectatins fr speaking bligatins, apprpriate attire, etc. Visitrs shuld be infrmed f any changes made t the infrmatin submitted n the pre-visit frms. Identify a distinguished guest cmmittee that will be respnsible fr all activities during the visit. This cmmittee shuld be familiar with the area and will represent yur rganizatin in a prfessinal manner. Make the cmmittee members aware f the dress cde fr the visit. Have them develp a plan that assigns individual respnsibilities. If yu have a natinal chairman, natinal fficer r Past Natinal President in yur department, it is suggested she be n this cmmittee. If the guest is flying int the area, designate wh will be at the airprt at the scheduled time f arrival. The visit begins at the airprt. Be n time and either at the gate r at the luggage area t make yur guest feel welcme. Assist with luggage at every lcatin. Transprt her in a clean vehicle that has a large luggage strage area. Many times, the guest has been traveling fr several days and has multiple suitcases. Ask if she has eaten r wuld like t stp at a suitable restaurant prir t escrting her t the final destinatin. If pssible, pick up the key t yur guest s rm befre her arrival. Check the rm t make sure everything is prepared fr her visit. Yu may chse t place a small gift, bttled water r small snacks in the rm. When yu arrive at the lcatin where yur guest will be staying, escrt her immediately t her rm. Allw the guest sme time t unpack, check her messages and relax befre the first scheduled event. She shuld be escrted at all times. Ask if she prefers breakfast in her rm r in the dining rm and what time she wuld like t retire t her rm. Facilitating a receptin r scial activity is an effective way f enabling the natinal-level visitr t meet as many members as pssible. The department president will intrduce the guest.
