Our October mission offering of $558.00 was directed to UMCOR International Disaster Relief to help those affected by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Indonesia in late September. In November, Cheryl Hasegawa lifted up the needs of eight dialysis patients and their families experiencing the effects of poverty due to medical illness. The November mission offering will be used to purchase food gift cards for these families. Grocery bags with a list of suggested food items were distributed so the congregation can know what items to donate to help these families have a Happy Thanksgiving. Collected items will be brought up to the altar to be blessed on Thanksgiving Sunday, November 18th. CASTeam #3 will be setting up a Christmas tree in December with items on the wish list of our adopted family from the Friendly Center. Helping a needy family to enjoy a special Christmas is our church s gift to this family. Please continue to pray for all those in need. Thank you for your generosity. We will also be sending our financial support for Liu Yang, the student our church supports through Threshold Ministries, Inc. in Linjiang, China. Wei-ling Louie We had a busy fall. We celebrated our 40th Anniversary, put on our annual Trunk-or-Treat for the community, and served voters Election Day Hospitality. Some of us also wrote Advent Devotional articles. There were many personal and family matters that kept us very busy. Now we are trying to make plans for Thanksgiving. Some of us are trying to reorganize our lives as it seems that busyness has blown our plans awry. We are hoping that we can reestablish those things we had planned to make our priority before we encounter the hectic weeks before Christmas. This is all part of life. There are ups and downs. There are joys and sorrows. There are unexpected blessings and disappointing losses. Yet the thing I like about the month of Thanksgiving is that it calls me to count my blessings. Some of us are the glass is half empty people and some of us are the glass is half full people. Yet, even if your glass is half empty, blessings inevitably come Message from Pastor Kim along. So often, when I get a bit overwhelmed and pray for God to send some relief, there is a moment or a person or an event that cheers me up. Perhaps this is a bit simple, but I find that when I take off my blinders and enlarge my vision, things don t seem so bad. When I can open my eyes and ears to the world around me instead of focusing strictly on myself, I gain a new perspective. So, let us not discount the struggles we have in life, but let s not be shackled by them either. Recently, I heard a quote from former Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O Connor, who was recently diagnosed with dementia at age 88, While the final chapter of my life with dementia may be trying, nothing has diminished my gratitude and deep appreciation for the countless blessings in my life. I pray that you will take time to count your blessings and find some way you can bless someone who needs to hear from you. In His Grace, Pastor SonHye

Generous and thoughtful, Pastor Kim treated all of us to lunch!! And it was a joy to have Pastor Ewin and Robert join us in class and for lunch - a fun day for all of us! Thank you!! Aloha and Mahalo, Tricia!! God is Good --- all the time, God is Good!! Autobiography Series - Thank You, Tricia August 22, 2018 A group of New Lifers have participated in a very rewarding activity this year. Lydia Chu introduced Guided Autobiography (GAB) to the group after having a very positive experience while taking the class at Cypress College. GAB classes encourage participants to write stories about their past as a way to reflect upon one s life and pass on a legacy to their children, grandchildren, and beyond. These classes are taught by GAB Certified Instructor, Tricia Homrighausen, and held throughout the year, five earlier this year and four during the summer. At each session, interesting activities and stimulating questions were provided to help trigger thoughts and memories from a person s life. The participants would have homework to write a short story (1-2 pages) on a specific, but broad, topic, for example: Gratitude or Holidays. At the following session, everyone was encouraged to read their story aloud. Hearing the stories was amazing, as individuals shared their memories, cultural traditions, and experiences. Each class generated much laughter and love, and occasionally a few tears. Tricia did an excellent job motivating the class to do their homework and encouraging them to share their stories. Everyone learned how unique and special each person is, yet with similar values, work ethics, and culture. The group gained a better understanding of each other s past, developed a stronger sense of connectedness, and came to appreciate and care for each other in a deeper way. Everyone was touched and enriched by this worthwhile activity. p a g e 2
