OF THE IMMACULATE Firs Reading: Consequences always follow from sin. Embarassmen, fear, shame, and guil follow, oo. We know we should no have sinned. Adam knows his, which is why he hides from God and ries o pass he blame on o Eve for his eaing he frui of he forbidden ree. Eve, oo, knows serious consequences will follow for her consumpion of he frui. Ye she passes he blame ono he serpen. God punishes he serpen, bu also pus enmiy beween he serpen and humaniy. Evil causes separaion and broken relaionships. The devil a work in serpen has harmed humaniy, ye God in Jesus Chris will ulimaely riumph forever. Second Reading: One of Paul s major hemes in his second leer o he Corinhians is he ransiory naure of our earhly life. We should look a everyhing we do here as a preparaion for eernal life. While we migh sense discouragemen because even our bodies change wih age, if our focus is on our inernal self, we know ha God in Jesus will help us coninually renew our spiris. We live in hope ha by virue of our faih we will share in Jesus Resurrecion. Gospel: Evidenly he scribes are confused for hey aribue Jesus power o exorcise demons o he devil, Beelzebul. Jesus response o he accusaions is o ell a parable. The message of he parable is ha division has no place in relaion o God s will. Divided homes and kingdoms coninue o exis. This is why God forgives sins, even blasphemies. Ye no one is ever o speak agains he Holy Spiri for ha would mean a demonic spiri possesses him or her. A relaive of Jesus does God s will. 2 Fr. Paul J. Mijas Friends in Miedzierza, a village of abou 600 Caholics, 165 miles souhwes of Warszawa, Poland, where he was born and raised as he hird son of Jozef Mijas and Leokadia Basiak, called Fr. Paul, Maciek. As a schoolboy, he was boh an excellen suden and an ahlee who biked, played soccer and ennis. The Mijas were sric Caholics. Paul and his family lived in a five-room house abou 300 yards from he church, where he family aended every Sunday Mass and ofen during he week. When Paul was a lile boy his faher worked for he church as a cusodian. In ha ime he became an alar server. Because he was so close o God and o priess as an alar server probably in his hear was sown he firs seed of vocaion o he prieshood. Afer graduaing from elemenary school, he aended high school in Konskie, a small nearby ciy of 30,000 people. The wondering and hinking abou wha he should do in his life, led him o search for answers. As a resul, he developed a naural ineres in heology. I was during his sudies ha Paul began his serious personal search for God. Throughou his journey, he no only realized a deep love of God, bu he discovered ha God is Love. Therefore, his decision o ener he prieshood became simple; he was answering his call o Love. So afer four years in high school he began sudying a he seminary in Sandomierz and hen in Radom, Poland. He was ordained in 1985 in Konskie, and spen five years as an associae pasor in he Diocese of Radom, Poland. Then he came o he Unied Saes in 1990 where he began his new life on he oher side of he Alanic Ocean. So now Fr. Paul is a long way from home. His firs sop in his counry was S. Isidore in Riverhead in he Diocese of Rockville Cenre, NY, a beauiful own circled by farms. There he spen six years serving he people of God, especially Polish immigrans. Nex he served a S. Hyacinh in Glen Head, he Assumpion of he Blessed Virgin Mary in Cenereach, S. Hedwig in Floral Park, Our lady of he Assumpion in Copiague and S. Joseph s in Kings Park. Las welve monhs he served as an adminisraor a S. Joseph s in Worceser, NY, in he Diocese of Albany. Wha Fr. Paul loves mos is celebraing liurgies. In his spare ime Fr. Paul enjoys bike riding bu elecronics is his hobby. And as ime permis, he ravels o Europe, especially o Poland where his family and friends live.
