ANNOUNCEMENTS (Contact Andrea with questions or to help out) Registration for Children s Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation begins Next date for: Saturday/Sunday August 11 & 12. We need more Baptism hosts or hostesses, can you help? Baptize your baby? 40 day blessing? Call to sign up. RCIA Adapted for Children: Saturday June 28 at 3:30 (lower Brendan House) RCIA Adapted for Teens: Sunday July 29 at 3:30 (Lower Brendan House) Old Testament DAVID IS ANOINTED 1 Samuel 16: 1-13 David was the youngest son of Jesse. Saul getting older and very troubled in his mind wouldn t be king of Israel for much longer. So God sent Samuel on an errand to anoint the next king of Israel. He went to the house of Jesse, where one by one the sons of Jesse passed before him. But God told Samuel, No, not this one, and No, not that one. Finally Samuel asked, Do you have another son? Jesse replied that his youngest son David was now out shepherding the sheep. Samuel said he would not eat or rest until that son was brought in from the field. In came David, full of life and ready for whatever came his way. Samuel anointed him by pouring blessed oil over his head. David had many adventures as king. New Testament DO YOU STILL NOT UNDERSTAND? Mark 8: 1-21 Jesus and his disciples were traveling in the region of Galilee. As always they were followed by large groups of people who came to hear Jesus teach and also brought their sick family members to be healed. Day after day they followed Jesus. He realized that they had run out of food, and told his disciples to provide food for them. The disciples only had seven loaves and a few small fish. But that was enough for Jesus to bless and distribute. Later on the disciples forgot to bring bread for themselves in their boat. They seemed to forget that Jesus would always provide for their needs. He asked them, Do you still not understand? Jesus always provides for our needs. LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH The Our Father Prayer Jewish rabbis taught their disciples how to pray. When Jesus disciples asked him, Teach us to pray, he taught them the prayer that we now know as Our Father, or The Lord s Prayer. This prayer tells us that we are God s children. We can call on God to provide for us, to forgive us when we do wrong. God has brought his eternal kingdom here to earth for our own lives. Alphabet Soup N Naomi was a woman who lived in ancient Israel. Her daughter in law Ruth took care of her. PAGE 4
