The people sit. A period of silent reflection is observed. Reading Romans 5:5-11 The Rev. Dr. Benton Martin Pastor, Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church Brothers and sisters: Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. For Christ, while we were still helpless, died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. How much more then, since we are now justified by his Blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath. Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Not only that, but we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. The people remain seated. Anthem Sanctus (Requiem Op. 9) Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986) Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt cæli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts: heaven and earth are full of thy glory: Hosanna, in the highest. Blessed is he that commeth in the name of the Lord: Hosanna, in the highest.

Reflection The Most Rev. Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv. Roman Catholic Bishop of Savannah Canticle Magnificat (Song of Mary) Eighth Psalm Tone falso bordone by Grassi Sung by the quartet Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum. My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior. He looks on his servant in her lowliness; henceforth all ages will call me blessed. The Almighty works marvels for me. Holy his name! His mercy is from age to age, on those who fear him. He puts forth his arm in strength and scatters the proud-hearted. He casts the mighty from their thrones and raises the lowly. He fills the starving with good things, sends the rich away empty. He protects Israel, his servant, remembering his mercy, the mercy promised to our fathers, to Abraham and his sons for ever. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. The people stand and bow Quartet: Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui Sancto, The people rise Quartet: Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, et in sæcula sæculórum. Amen. The people remain standing.

Prayers and intercessions Rev. Let us pray to Christ who gives us the hope that our mortal bodies will become like his in glory. Christ, Son of the living God, you raised your friend Lazarus from the dead; grant life and glory to the faithful departed, redeemed by your precious blood. Compassionate Savior, you wiped away all tears when you gave back to the widow of Naim her only son; comfort those who mourn because the one they love has died. Christ, our Redeemer, destroy the reign of sin in our mortal bodies; let us not receive the wages of death but the reward of eternal life. Christ, our Savior, look on those who live without hope and do not know you; let them believe in the resurrection and the life of the world to come. You restored sight to the man born blind and opened the eyes of his faith; reveal your face to the dead who have not seen your glory. Silence For those who have gone before us, marked with the sign of faith, especially those for whom we now pray: We pray: Lord, be merciful to us when we leave this earthly dwelling; make for us a home in heaven that will last for ever. The People sit.

Anthem: Pie Jesu (Requiem Op. 9) Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986) Jaquelyn Hamilton, Soloist The People stand. Pie Jesu Domine, Dona eis requiem. Pie Jesu Domine, Dona eis requiem sempiternam. Tender Lord Jesus, Grant them rest. Tender Lord Jesus, Grant them rest eternal. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Final Blessing Bishop: Bishop: Bishop: Bishop: Bishop: The Lord be with You. And with your spirit. May the Father who created all things, bring our faithful departed to live forever with him. Amen. May the Son who redeemed them from the hopelessness of sin and from eternal death, share His risen life with them in heaven forever. Amen. May the Holy Angels lead them into paradise, may the martyrs receive them at their coming, and bring them into the holy city Jerusalem, and with Lazarus, once poor, may they have everlasting rest. Amen. And the blessing of God Almighty, (+) the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you for ever. Amen.

Recessional Anthem: The People remain standing. In paradisum (Requiem Op. 9) Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986) In paradisum deducant te Angeli; in tuo adventu suscipiant te martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Ierusalem. Chorus angelorum te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere æternam habeas requiem. May the angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs receive you at your arrival and lead you to the holy city Jerusalem. May choirs of angels receive you and with Lazarus, once a poor man, may you have eternal rest. Organ Postlude Toccata (Suite pour Orgue, Op. 5) Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986)
