The Good News at Grassland Grassland Heights Baptist Church 2316 Hillsboro Road, Franklin, TN 37069 615-794-5529 www.grasslandbaptist.com To all of the Grassland family, Greetings to all of you! Can you believe that July is upon us? The time passes so very quickly and I m reminded of the words of James. In chapter 4 and the latter part of verse 14, James writes, What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Soon the new school year will begin, we will prepare for the autumn season, and before we know it.2014 will be here. We must make the most of the time we have now. July will present itself that we may grow in our faithfulness and love for the Lord. Let s make the most of it! We have a new Student Pastor! Scott Allen has begun his ministry with us and he had to dive in headfirst. Right away he went with the youth to Centrifuge in North Carolina and has a pool party planned for Sunday evening, July 14th at David and Glendra Thompson s. Please lift Scott up in your prayers, as well as our youth. July also brings Vacation Bible School, the 21st 24th, Sunday through Wednesday evenings from 8:30pm. Tell the neighbors and wake the kids! Sunday July 28th is our quarterly business meeting following our morning worship. We enjoy a covered dish meal together, so please bring food! Finally, there are a couple of Sunday nights in July that we will not be having services. Those dates are July 7th and July 28th. The 14th we will have another fellowship night and the 21st is VBS. Pray diligently for us as a church during this month. If we will pray, God will move. Blessings, Pastor Rusty July 2013 Volume 1, Issue 11 Inside this issue: Greetings 1 Worship Services 1 Dates to Remember Grassland In-Reach Grassland Out-Reach 1 2 3 Member Moments 4 Don t Forget Dates 4 Staff & Ministries 4 Wall Calendar 5 Written Calendar 6 July 14 - Church-wide Fellowship time July 28 - Business Meeting with potluck to follow Sunday School/ (all ages) Children's Worship (PreK 1st grade) Worship Services Sundays 10:30 am & Wednesdays Rick Bennett (gathered during Worship Service/pick up in library after service) Kid's Worship (2nd 5th grade) (2nd & 4th Sundays) Lisa and Rick Dickinson (meets in the Chapel same time as Worship Service/pick up in library after service) * will resume after summer* 9:15am 10:30am 10:30am Dates to Remember 7/10 Children to Sky High Jump 7/14 Student swimming Children make zucchini bread Church-wide Fellowship time 7/21-7/24 Vacation Bible School 7/21-7/24 7/26 Seniors trip Patsy Cline play 7/26-7/27 Men s Main Event 7/28 Business Meeting 7/31 Children Movie Night Nursery services (birth - 3 years old) Available during Sunday School and Worship services

DID YOU KNOW? Samuel Pascale (pictured here with good friend, Chris Turner), son of Sandra & Mark King and brother to Hallie, is such a joy to have as a member of our church congregation! He comes to church early on Sundays to make coffee in the Eagle s Nest and then checks on it later to be sure it has been cleaned up. He helps get the food out on Wednesdays as well. My mom calls me Miracle Boy/Man. With high functioning autism, I remember in pictures and have been described as a gentle warrior with immense determination. A few of my challenges have been: bouts of meningitis, Kawasaki s Disease, pneumonias, ruptured appendix, pyelonephritis, as well as some recent difficulties. At varying times, my mother was told I may not ever walk, talk, hear, think, or live well. However, God is good and had a reason for bringing a four month old me to my family all the way from South Korea. I have been blessed to be a part of Grassland for two years and am excited about working as a counselor at Centrifuge. Grace and faith have been important to me and have led me to my current job as well as my future plans. Right now, I work among Christians in downtown Franklin s Our Thrift Store. I am making plans to attend Nashville Community College this fall where I will study Computer Information Security. Gaming, swimming, and chess have been a part of my personality, as have sci-fi novels, and manga/anime with its layers of meaning and beauty. I have even participated in national Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments. More recently I have loved getting back into archery at Grassland! The verse God is good, is true--just look at me! Scott Allen, our new Student Pastor We welcome Scott Allen to Grassland Heights Baptist Church and especially to the Student Ministry team! He went straight to work helping chaperone and counsel the students at Centrifuge Camp in Ridgecrest, North Carolina, June 25 - June 29. Thank you for your warm welcome! I am excited to serve along with you. I believe the students here at GHBC will lead each of us in examining the changing culture in which we live. The students and student ministry team welcome your continued prayers. We just experienced a wonderful week at Centrifuge. Thank you for the contributions you make that provide life-changing experiences for our students. I look forward to the days before us. Please call or email me at any time (615-618-3632 or scott@solutionstochange.com ) There is still time for the family to come out for great evening of fun on Tuesday evenings for our Archery Classes! The Junior Olympic Archery Development program is designed in 8 week intervals. This first series of classes offers the opportunity to come as often as you like and are able. Cost is $10 per person and includes all equipment, (family discount for 3 or more family members). This summer session goes from now through July 23. There is a 5:30pm session and a 6:30pm session. If you are interested in participating or in need of more information you can email Coach Jeff Greer at jcivi@yahoo.com or call 335-9693. There will be another session starting again in the Fall.
