JOYFUL STEWARDSHIP from GOSPEL IDENTITY Why are we here? We believe we exist to spread a passion for the glory of God in all things, and that this happens by making disciples of Jesus Christ who make disciples of Jesus Christ. But how? It is SO IMPORTANT that we get the order right. Our doing is meant to flow out of our being. Who we are shapes what we do. And we find these when we see WHO GOD is and WHAT HE HAS DONE. WHO GOD IS -> WHAT HE HAS DONE -> WHO WE ARE -> WHAT WE DO -> Father Loved & Reconciled us His Family Love Each other Jesus, the King Served & Saved us His Servants Serve the Least Holy Spirit Indwells us with Power His Missionaries Witness in Word & Deed MEDIA - Visual Technician & Assistant The VISUAL TECHs provide accessibility to worship services, church functions, and fellowship through operating the text and/or video systems for the edification and mission of Grace Baptist. Some of the roles include working with computer media software, coordinating with pastors or praise teams, and setting up and taking down equipment. Before and during worship services. And open to volunteering at other church events. Contact: Jakob Ackermann Ph: 250-766-1553 Thanks to Who God Is and What He Has Done in the Gospel, the Church is: GOD S FAMILY of MISSIONARY SERVANTS We believe God is glorified - disciples of Jesus are made - when we live from our Gospel Identity. So what about this book? Our prayer for Grace Baptist is that we would know our identity as a God s Family of Missionary Servants, so we can be & make disciples of Jesus Christ, bringing glory to God! The organized ministries of Grace (the ones you see in this book) are meant to help every one of us in knowing and living out this gospel-identity. How to use this book The Joyful Stewardship Guide is meant to help anyone see the various ministries of Grace, in a snapshot. We want everyone to understand what our ministries are and what they are all about. And very importantly, we want every person of Grace to discover their place of ministry, and to know who to talk to get involved in that ministry. 4 25

MEDIA - Audio Tech & Assistant The AUDIO TECHs provide accessibility to worship services, church functions, and fellowship through sound engineering technology for the edification and mission of Grace Baptist. Some of the roles include rehearsing sound with praise teams, setting up and taking down equipment, recording services and making them available online or on CD. Evening practice, and before, during, and after services. Contact: Spencer Thompson Ph: 250-863-3618 Each ministry in the Joyful Stewardship Guide has a team leader listed for you to be able to contact. Since we are all SERVANTS of Jesus, we want to do our best to make sure everyone knows their place of serving within the FAMILY of God. Prayerfully consider where God is calling you to serve, and then talk to that ministry leader about that. The ministry team leader will then help you discern if God is calling you to serve in this specific way. And they will do their best to enfold and equip you for that ministry. Also, feel free to use this book with others in the church. Since we are God s FAMILY, it would make sense that we look out for one another and assist one another to find their place of growth and service. So, let s use the Joyful Stewardship Guide to more effectively serve in our organized ministries. But let s not stop there. Let us see that these ministries are designed to send us out into the communities and neighborhoods God is calling us to. May God Bless You, and May God Build His Kingdom, and May God Get the Glory as we JOYFULLY STEWARD the resources, talents & gifts He has entrusted. 24 5

A Word about our Values Our desire at Grace is to learn & live our 5 values, to the glory of God! We see each value as foundational to living as disciples of Jesus Christ and therefore strive for each of these to motivate and shape the people and ministries of Grace. Authoritative Word Formed & transformed by the truth of Scripture; to live in freeing submission to His Word. We believe Jesus Christ is the supreme embodiment of Truth. He is the way, the truth, and the life. All things find their ultimate meaning and purpose in Him. We also believe God has given the Bible as His written, completely true, authoritative, and specific revelation of Himself and who we are in relationship to Him. We want to submit ourselves to His Word so that we can grow in love, obedience, zeal, knowledge, and fruitfulness to God. John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Timothy 3:15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21 Thrive THRIVE is a Kids After School Program in partnership with Grace Baptist Church. Their mission statement is: To provide safe and exciting out of school care, where children Thrive, through relational mentoring, interaction with nature and creative opportunities for personal growth of body soul and spirit. Volunteer. Provide healthy snacks. There are a variety of ways to work with kids or help the staff. As many after school hours as you like. Michelle, Program Manager. Ph: 250-826-5436 Email: grace.thrivekelowna@gmail.com Intimacy with God Created for passionate relationship with God; to enjoy total dependence on Him. Our Triune God is the center of all we do and who we are. We seek to glorify Him as we pour out our lives as worship to Him. We realize our total dependence on God for all things. And so we strive to be a people of faith and prayer. We pursue an active, growing, obedient, and abiding relationship with God. Matthew 22:36-38; John 15:1-11; James 4:6-10 Authentic Community Made for one another; to build true relationship in the family of God. God exists as a perfect community of three in one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 6 23

LIBRARY The CHURCH LIBRARY is a resource center to further growth in Christ by providing resource materials of the highest quality. Resources include Bible Stories & Studies, Commentaries, Church History, Church Doctrine, Apologetics, Teaching Materials, Media, and more. Assist library patrons at the circulation desk, process new materials, assist people in finding a resource, and help with assorted tasks as needed. Before and after Sunday morning services. Lauren Iseli, Ph: 250-864-0673 God s people are called to reflect this glory of God as a relational community expressing diversity within unity. We realize that by God s grace we belong to Him and to one another. Therefore we strive to cultivate loving, authentic, and devoted relationships that are centered in Jesus Christ. We want to be a people active, together, in God s purposes, so that all would know and glorify Him. Matthew 22:39; John 13:34-35; John 15:12-13; John 17:20-23; Acts 2:42-47; Ephesians 4:1-3 Missional Living Commissioned as His Sent People; to be intentional as everyday missionaries of the gospel. God is a missional, sending God and has given us a glorious mission. As the Father sent the Son, we have been sent out into the world by Jesus. We have been commissioned to go to all nations and people groups, near and far, to make disciples of Jesus, with His message, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Knowing our own brokenness, hopelessness, and hostility toward God apart from Christ, we desire to become friends of sinners. We believe that the heartbeat of this mission is not in our programming, but in our every day living. Therefore, we are learning to tangibly demonstrate and declare the gospel in our culture through our lives. Luke 15; John 20:19-22; Acts 1:8; Matthew 5:13-16; Matthew 9:9-13; Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 24:46-48; Jeremiah 29:7 Joyful Stewardship Entrusted with all things; to invest in all of life as worship to God. God is the creator, sustainer, giver, taker, and purpose of all of life. Recognizing that every good and perfect gift is from the Father above, we know ourselves, possessions, and all that is under our care as belonging to God. By virtue of His command and of being made in His image, we are designed to be faithful stewards of all He has entrusted to us. Therefore, we create & cultivate culture, serve sacrificially, invest in heavenly treasures, and give generously of our spiritual gifts, abilities, time, & treasure all in such a way that brings glory to God, benefit to others, and joy to us. 22 7

Greeters The GREETING TEAM has the opportunity to make a great first impression. Greeters give a warm welcome to visitors and church members as they come through the doors every Sunday morning. This first line ministry is very important in cultivating an atmosphere of love and community. If you can shake a hand, smile, and give a hearty hello and welcome, then you might be a great fit for the Greeting Team. Roughly once a month on a Sunday morning, or as you allow yourself to be on the schedule. Art & Ruth Stuerle Ph: 250-762-6216 VISITATION TEAM Joining our Visitation Team offers a unique opportunity to serve Jesus ( I was sick and you looked after me Matthew. 25:36) and the opportunity to serve His body. The goal of our ministry, through visitation, is simply to be present with those who have special needs, are sick, lonely or shut-in. Through this service we want to live out the gospel, by loving one another (John 13:34), carrying each other s burdens (Gal. 6:2), building each other up (1 Thess. 5:11), praying for each other (James 5:16), and encouraging each other (1 Thess.4:18). Participating in this rewarding ministry requires no special qualifications only a love for the Lord and His people, as well as a readiness to sit with someone who needs to be cared for. We will meet from time to time with the visitation team to coordinate and communicate. You will receive suggested name(s) of those who would appreciate a visit. If you prefer, you can be paired with another person to partner with. You determine when you would like to visit according to your schedule. Contact: Andy Dietrich: Ph:250-763-3457, Email: dietrich@uniserve.com 8 21

GROWTH GROUPS At Grace, a GROWTH GROUP is the essential place to be on mission, in community, living out our values. Groups meet weekly, but the intention is that this is the place where gospel centered relationships, learning, and mission happen all week long. Our goal, by God s grace, is to see Missional Growth Groups established and multiplying through neighborhoods in Kelowna, Westside, and Lake Country - for the hope of seeing gospel transformation in our lives and in the communities where we live. Coffee Kiosk The COFFEE KIOSK is a center of refreshment and hospitality, before and after Sunday morning services. Provide warm welcomes (& beverages) to new comers and all who stop by. Work on a team with other Baristas, serving up both coffee and smiles. Assist in shopping for supplies if necessary. Be a group leader, co-leader, host, or participant. 1 hour per Sunday, as many Sundays as you want to be on the schedule. Gather at least weekly and invest your heart daily. Karli Thompson Ph: 250-863-3637 Brent Iseli: Ph: 250-763-34-57, Email: brent@gracekelowna.com 20 9

Kitchen Help Sharing a meal together is one of God s great gifts to humankind. Around the table is one of the greatest ways to build community. There is always help needed in the kitchen for large church meals. If you like any sort of kitchen/meal work, there is a job for you. Occasional, special events. Contact: Ursula Grams Ph: 250-860-8189 (evenings) E: uschigrams@gmail.com Men s Breakfast About once a month on a Saturday morning, all men are invited to gather together for a hearty breakfast, fellowship, and a challenge from God s Word. Be one of the fearless men who get up early and work together in preparing the breakfast. These men who prep and cook find this to be a great time of bonding and service. Roughly once a month on a Saturday morning. Contact: Spencer Thompson Ph: 250-863-3618 10 19

Mission of Motherhood - M.O.M.s The aim of the MISSION OF MOTHERHOOD (M.O.M.) ministry is to be an outreach for mothers both in and outside of the church. We are established on our core values with a specific focus on stewardship, community and missional living. We meet twice a month, alternating between formal meetings to do a book study on stewardship and our role as mothers and meetings in more informal settings (parks, playgrounds, beaches, etc.) to further encourage authentic community and create opportunities for non- Christian mothers to attend and connect. The idea is to meet both the spiritual needs of the women within the church and also ultimately, be a resource for non-christian mothers seeking practical support. Join Us Formal Meeting Time: 10 am, 1 st Wednesday of each month. Study Location: Youth room. Childcare provided during book study. Informal Gatherings: 3 rd Wednesday of each month Contacts Leslie Saufferer, Ph: 250-718-4888 Aleesha Oostenbrink, Ph: 250-826-5117 Lauren Iseli, Ph: 250-864-0673 Decorations Christmas, Easter, and other special events, there is occasion to decorate the church building in a way that draws attention and magnifies the Lord. If you have a knack for making things look just right, you can help. Occasional, special events. Contact: Rita Vocht Ph: 778-753-1981 18 11

Event Service Team When big church events happen, practical things need to get done! Tables need moving, chairs need stacking or unstacking, dishes need washing, equipment needs to be set up and taken down. Being on an Event Service Team is all about having many hands make the work light. And it functions pretty simple: If you are on a team, you will be called when a big church event is coming up. If you are available, you show up at the designated time and place to help out with the others on the team. No amount of help is too small. Be a team member or leader. Depends on event. One or a few hours at a time. Contact Ursula Grams, Assistant Coordinator Ph: 250-860-8189 (evenings) Email: uschigrams@gmail.com Youth Ministry The focus of our YOUTH MINISTRY is to equip students in the gospel so that they will BE the church wherever they go. We believe that parents are the primary equippers, and the church partners with them so that teens can leave home prepared for life on mission. Youth leaders work together to help create a discipleship environment like Jesus Himself showed us, which is: Life on Life, Life in Community & Life on Mission. Disciple: serve, teach, mentor, and love youth; help plan events & more. One of the weekly gatherings, plus time with students during the week. Brent Iseli Ph: 250-763-3457 Email: brent@gracekelowna.com 12 17

Children s Ministry (Kids Church) The goal of our CHILDREN S MINISTRY is to teach kids about God s love for them, and to pray that they will accept Christ as their Lord and Saviour at an early age. We aim to provide a fun setting where we can sew the seeds of God s Word, leading to acceptance and obedience of Jesus Christ. A key verse for us is: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). Be a Kid s Church teacher or helper. Sunday mornings, as you are scheduled. Some prep time. Lisa Dietrich Ph: 250-763-3363 Prayer Groups Throughout the week, individuals meet in PRAYER GROUPS to lift up praises and requests for each other, our church, our community, and the world. Join an existing prayer group or help start a new one. Prayer Chain The purpose of our PRAYER CHAIN is to provide prayer support in case of special needs and to engage in regular intercession for existing ministries and leaders. Along with others on the team, be available by phone to receive prayer requests, pray, and make a phone call to pass on the prayer request. Occasional short phone conversations and time for prayer.
