A PERSONAL WORD SUNDAY, MARCH 18 FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT 8:45 & 11:00 AM Sanctuary The 8:45 AM worship service is broadcast via 15-minute delay from 9-10 AM Sundays on WAPI-1070 AM and 100.5 FM. SERMON Dr. Andrew Wolfe Lenten Sermon Series: The Lord s Prayer Forgive Us Our Trespasses MUSIC 8:45 AM William A. Gardner Handbell Choir, Praise Alliance 11:00 AM William A. Gardner Handbell Choir, Sanctuary Choir MINISTER ON CALL Bobby Scales, 746-4547 Two weeks ago, there was another of those tragic shootings at a high school in Ohio. A 17 year old student named T. J. Lane, walked into the school and randomly shot and killed three students in the library. A few days after this senseless tragedy, the parents of one of the victims, Demetrius Hewlin, said they forgave the suspected gunman. When asked what she would say to the suspected shooter, Ferguson s mother said, I would tell him I forgive him because, a lot of times, they don t know what they re doing. That s all I d say. That was not an easy thing to say or do. In fact, had it been my child who was killed, I am not at all sure I would have the grace to forgive so quickly. When wronged, the pain, anger and rage can overwhelm us. Forgiveness is hard work, it is not easy. And yet it is the way of Jesus. In that model prayer that Jesus taught his disciples, he instructed us to pray, forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those trespass against us. In some ways this is the hardest part of this prayer to pray. It tells us we must be willing to change. And change comes hard for us. But, if forgiveness is hard, what is even harder on us is to become a prisoner of our anger, our hurt and our pain. Corrie Ten Boom, whose family perished in the Nazi death camps, wrote that forgiveness is to set the prisoner free and discover the prisoner was you. This Sunday, we will continue the Lenten sermon series on The Lord s Prayer, by looking at the hard work of forgiveness. Lenten Sermon Series The Lord s Prayer Teach us to pray! The disciples asked Jesus one day... Perhaps they asked this question because they saw the centrality and power of prayer in Jesus life. Jesus responded to their request by giving us the words of the Lord s Prayer. In these words we find a model for all prayer. During Lent we will use the Lord s Prayer as the central theme of our worship and reflections. This Week s God Moment...it s about allowing the light of Jesus to shine through us Lil Lambs Children s Consignment Sale is such a blessing in so many ways. We just completed our Spring Sale which will gross over $38,000 in two days. But, it is not about the money. It s about the opportunity to share resources, make friends, be in service to our church and to others in the community. It s about allowing the light of Jesus to shine through us with our smiles, our helpful attitudes and our hard work. It s about having a servant heart, welcoming all who come to buy, sell or volunteer. It s about being the church. A special moment happened when a seller came to pick up her check late Saturday afternoon for the items she had sold. Her face showed apprehension as she glanced at the check. Tears quickly flowed. I ve prayed that this check would cover an immediate financial crisis. It s $5.00 more! Thank you, thank you, thank you and praise God! Now, that s a God Moment! Linda Whatley Director of Children s Ministry BELOW: Mothers shop for great deals on children s clothing at Lil Lambs. 2012 Kids Summer Fun at Trinity Dates for Summer Camps are now online. God Moments are those moments that we can see and feel God s presence in a special and/or profound way. God is with us 24-7 but sadly many God Moments go unnoticed by us. They have a son, Beau (8 months). Interested in Membership? Please join us the first Sunday of every month in the large parlor for Coffee with the Pastor. This is a time to meet the pastoral staff, ask questions and learn more about the core values and mission of Trinity. We also encourage you to attend Membership 101, a basic orientation prior to joining Trinity. It is offered on the second Sunday of each month. Contact Drew Holland at 879-1737 or email dholland@trinitybirmingham.com with any questions. Don t forget your name tag... on Sunday mornings or anytime you are attending or representing Trinity! This is a great way to provide hospitality to our guests, and to help us get to know one another better. If you don t have a name tag, contact Lisa at 879-1737 or lelliott@trinitybirmingham.com. Mark your calendar for VBS 2012! July 16-19 Don t forget...it takes lots of adult volunteers to make this an unforgettable week for our kids! If you d like to help, contact Melissa Vinson at mvinson9752@gmail.com.
