Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Ben Harding Music Director Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH November 27, 2018 A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear Church Family and Friends, I love a good story. Stories entertain. Stories teach. Stories enrich. I hope the following story does all three. John Maxwell tells the story of a father and his young son eating lunch at McDonalds. The father ordered their food. When they sat down to eat, he thought the french fries in front of his son were irresistible. He reached out to grab a few fries. Just before he touched them, his son pushed his hand away and said, Dad, those are mine! The father was stunned. As he withdrew his hand, he tried to wrap his mind around what just happened. His thoughts went something like this Without me, he would have no french fries! How can he be so ungrateful? He didn t even thank me! I gave a whole meal to him and he won t even give back a single french fry! The story is a little shocking. The Bible reveals a deeper truth. God has given us far more than a meal at McDonalds. He loved us so much that He gave His only Son. That is the greatest story of all. God is a Giver and calls us to be givers, too. The appropriate response is to receive His gift (Jesus) and to give back to Him and through Him to the world around us for the rest of our lives. Love, Pastor Mike How to Join Wise Baptist Church: Express one of the following to the Pastor during the closing hymn: Transfer of Letter Transfer membership to Wise Baptist Church Baptism Desire to express faith in Christ through baptism Statement of Faith Baptized believer not on a membership roll Watch Care Desire to be connected to our Church family without official membership Important Dates A Night in Bethlehem December 1, 3:30pm Deacons Meeting December 2, 8:30am Men s Bible Study December 4, 6:30am Missions Committee December 5, 5pm Night of Christmas Music December 9, 5:00pm Christmas Dinner December 12 Caroling at the Laurels December 19, 6:30pm Inside Announcements Pages 2-3 BDays/Anniv. December 7-8 WISE BAPTIST CHURCH Children s Christmas Handbell Choir We would like to have a Children's Handbell Choir for our Evening of Music on December 9, 2018! With this activity, you DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ANY MUSIC! Your child will need to know their colors since the bells are colorspecific, but they do not need to have any experience with handbells. We have found that children that have not practiced AT ALL can still perform well. We will only meet one or at the most, two times before our performance on Dec. 9. We will be playing 2 Christmas songs that are easy, even for first time players. We will practice on Sunday, December 2, immediately after worship (at approximately 12:15) for about 45 minutes and then again on Wednesday, December 5 at 5:00pm for about 30 minutes. If your child can only be at one practice, please let me know so we can save their spot. Contact Donna Hutchinson at 276-393-5004. We look forward to celebrating this glorious Advent season with you and your child! Thanks, Donna Hutchinson We will be taking the church bus to travel to Boone, NC to work 2 shifts at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center.
