Dr. Julianne Hanavan Come and worship Rejoice in fellowship Love and serve the Lord! HARVEST BLESSINGS Thanksgiving day approaches quickly. Before falling into that whirlwind of cooking and entertaining activities that often accompany and sometimes distract from this celebration, the prophet Joel strikes a lovely theme for us. Rejoice and be glad all of creation - soil, animals, and the people of Israel. "You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you." This lesson from Joel appointed for Thanksgiving day takes us away from time constraints and lists of things that we must do, reorienting us towards the experience of abundance in God's creation. God's creation is a Kingdom of Plenty, abounding in grace, love, and hope that feeds us all. The Rev. Dr. Judith Mitchell Vestry Members Joel's message is a promise of peace and restoration after drought and locusts have destroyed the harvest and the people have endured great hardship. God is amidst his people. President Abraham Lincoln established this national holiday of

He wrote in October of 1863, "The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God." Let us give thanks for our many graces and blessings as we continue to pray for God's healing peace and loving comfort to those who grieve family and friends lost or injured in violence and natural disasters this year. If you are looking for a moment of rest and reflection on Wednesday, come to our Open Church anytime between 11:30-1:30. Join us for noon Eucharist.
