O Worship the King (Music: Johann Michael Haydn, Words: Robert Grant) Last Sunday After Pentecost / Christ the King November 26, 2017 Our service begins on p. 413, Confirmation, in The Book of Common Prayer. O worship the King all glorious above And gratefully sing His wonderful love Our shield and defender the ancient of days Pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise O tell of His might and sing of His grace Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form And dark is His path on the wings of the storm All hail to the King in splendor enthroned Glad praises we bring thy wonders make known Returning victorious, great conqueror of sin King Jesus, all glorious our victory will win (Repeat Verse 1) Here is Love (Music: Robert S. Lowry & Matt Redman, Words: William Rees & Matt Redman) Here is love vast as the ocean loving kindness as the flood When the prince of life our ransom shed for us his precious blood (Repeat) Who His love will not remember who can cease to sing his praise He can never be forgotten throughout heavenʼs eternal days On the mount of crucifixion fountains opened deep and wide Through the floodgates of Godʼs mercy lowed a vast a gracious tide Peace and love like mighty rivers flowed incessant from above Heavenʼs peace and perfect justice kissed a guilty world in love Who His love will not remember who can cease to sing his praise He can never be forgotten throughout heavenʼs eternal days Bridge No love is higher, no love is wider No love is deeper, no love is truer No love is higher, no love is wider No love is like your love oh Lord (Repeat) THE WORD OF GOD (All standing) Celebrant: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Psalm 100 BCP, p. 729 1 Be joyful in the LORD, all you lands; * serve the LORD with gladness and come before his presence with a song. 2 Know this: The LORD himself is God; * he himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. 3 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise; * give thanks to him and call upon his Name. 4 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; * and his faithfulness endures from age to age. Glory to the Father; and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen Second Reading: Ephesians 1:15-23 (At the conclusion of the reading...) Gospeler: The Gospel of the LORD. Praise to you, LORD Christ. Sermon (Silence to hear God speak.) Bishop Gerry Schnackenberg PRESENTATION & EXAMINATION OF THE CANDIDATES The Candidates will now be presented. Presenter: I present these persons for Confirmation. Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil? Candidates: I do. Do you renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? Candidates: I do, and with God s grace I will follow him as my Savior and Lord. After all have been presented, the Bishop addresses the congregation, Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ? We will. Let us join with those who are committing themselves to Christ and renew our own baptismal covenant. The Baptismal Covenant Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Will you continue in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ? Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself? Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? Prayers for the Candidates Let us now pray for these persons who have renewed their commitment to Christ. Almighty God, we thank you that by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ you have overcome sin and brought us to yourself, and that by the sealing of your Holy Spirit you have bound us to your service. Renew in these your servants the covenant you have made with them at their Baptism. Send them forth in the power of that Spirit to perform the service you set before them; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. For Confirmation Strengthen, O Lord, your servant with your Holy Spirit; empower him/her for your service; and sustain him/her all the days of their life. Amen. (Today s confirmands are Anissa Luk, Phoebe Dominguez, Madelynn Nackerud, Nwanma Udokwu, Graham Drews and Rose Sarchet.) The Peace Celebrant: Almighty and everlasting God, let your fatherly hand ever be over these your servants; let your Holy Spirit ever be with them; and so lead them in the knowledge and obedience of your Word, that they may serve you in this life, and dwell with you in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. (The ministers and the people greet one another in the name of the Lord.)
