Welcome to St Alban s Trinity 14 Mass Setting today - Mass of St Thomas Copyright 2012 David Thorne Music OPENING HYMN: Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847) 1.Praise, my soul, the king of heaven! To his feet thy tribute bring. Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who like me his praise should sing? Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise the everlasting king! 2.Praise him for his grace and favour to our fathers in distress; praise him still the same for ever, slow to chide and swift to bless. Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Glorious in his faithfulness! 3.Father-like he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; in his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Widely as his mercy flows! 4. Angels, help us to adore him; ye behold him face to face; sun and moon bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space. Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Praise with us the God of grace!

We are gathered together as one body In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen The Lord be with you. And also with you INVITATION TO CONFESSION My brothers and sisters, as we prepare to celebrate the presence of Christ in word and sacrament, let us call to mind and confess our sins. Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen. THE ABSOLUTION Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in life eternal, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 2

THE GLORIA Glory to God, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Glory to God, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. Glory to God, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Glory to God, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest. THE COLLECT (The special prayer of the day) Almighty God, whose only Son has opened for us a new and living way into your presence: give us pure hearts and steadfast wills to worship you in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. 3

FIRST READING: Genesis 50. 15-21 After the reading...this is the word of the Lord: Thanks be to God SECOND READING: Romans 14. 1-12 After the reading...this is the word of the Lord: Thanks be to God. Stand to sing the Gradual Hymn: Carol Owens 1972 Bud John Songs/ EMI Christian Music Publishing/Adm. by CopyCare. 1.God forgave my sin in Jesus name, I ve been born again in Jesus name; and in Jesus name I come to you to share his love as he told me to. He said: Freely, freely, you have received; freely, freely give. Go in my name, and because you believe, others will know that I live. 2. All power is given in Jesus name, in earth and heaven in Jesus name; and in Jesus name I come to you to share his power as he told me to. He said: Freely, freely, you have received;. 3. God gives us life in Jesus name, He lives in us in Jesus name; And in Jesus name I come to you To share his peace as he told me to. He said: Freely, freely, you have received;. x 2 4

THE GOSPEL Matthew 18. 21-35 We sing Alleluia, Alleluia; Alleluia, Alleluia Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. Glory to you O God At the end of the reading: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. THE SERMON THE NICENE CREED Please stand if you are able We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one Being with the Father, through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 5

THE PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ let us pray to the Father. RESPONSE: Lord, in your mercy...hear our prayer. At the end of the prayers we say together: Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen THE PEACE: Please stand. We share a sign of peace with those standing nearest us. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace. 1.Alleluia, sing to Jesus, his the sceptre, his the throne, alleluia, his the triumph, his the victory alone: hark! the songs of peaceful Sion thunder like a mighty flood; Jesus, out of every nation, hath redeemed us by his blood. OFFERTORY HYMN: W. Chatterton Dix (1837-98 2. Alleluia, not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; alleluia, he is near us, faith believes, nor questions how; though the cloud from sight received him when the forty days were o er, shall our hearts forget his promise, I am with you evermore? 6

3. Alleluia, Bread of Angels, thou on earth our food, our stay; alleluia, here the sinful flee to thee from day to day; intercessor, friend of sinners, earth s Redeemer, plead for me, where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea. 4. Alleluia, King eternal, thee the Lord of lords we own; alleluia, born of Mary, earth thy footstool, heaven thy throne; thou within the veil hast entered, robed in flesh, our great High Priest; thou on earth both priest and victim in the Eucharistic Feast. THE PREPARATION OF THE TABLE Blessed be God, by whose grace creation is renewed, by whose love heaven is opened, by whose mercy we offer our sacrifice of praise. Blessed be God for ever. THE EUCHARIST The Lord be with you. And also with you Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise 7

Father, you made the world and love your creation. You gave your Son Jesus Christ to be our Saviour. His dying and rising have set us free from sin and death. And so we gladly thank you, with saints and angels praising you, and singing: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son. On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; Do this in remembrance of me. When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory. Great is the mystery of faith Christ has died: Christ is risen: Christ will come again. 8

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Alban, and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever. Amen. As our Saviour taught us so we pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name; Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen We break this bread to share in the body of Christ Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace God s holy gifts, for God s holy people. Jesus Christ is holy, Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father. All those baptised into the Christian faith are welcome to come forward for communion. Alternatively, you are welcome to come forward for a blessing 9

COMMUNION HYMN: Stuart Townend, Keith & Kristyn Getty 2007 Thankyou Music 1.Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away, Slain for us: and we remember: The promise made that all who come in faith Find forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this Bread of life, And we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of peace Around the table of the King. 2.The body of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, Torn for you: eat and remember The wounds that heal, the death that brings us life, Paid the price to make us one. So we share in this Bread of Life 3.The blood that cleanses every stain of sin, Shed for you: drink and remember He drained death's cup that all may enter in To receive the life of God. So we share in this Bread of Life 4.And so with thankfulness and faith We rise to respond: and to remember Our call to follow in the steps of Christ As His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering, We proclaim: Christ will come again! And we'll join in the feast of heaven Around the table of the King. 10

Post communion prayer... Lord God, the source of truth and love, keep us faithful to the apostles teaching and fellowship, united in prayer and the breaking of bread, and one in joy and simplicity of heart, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son, Jesus Christ. Through Him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen THE BLESSING AND DISMISSAL The Lord bless you and watch over you, the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord look kindly on you and give you peace, and the blessing Go in peace, to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen CLOSING HYMN: 1961 Timothy Dudley-Smith 1.Tell out my soul, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings, give my spirit voice; tender to me the promise of his word; in God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice. 2. Tell out my soul, the greatness of his name! Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done; his mercy sure, from age to age the same; his holy name the Lord, the Mighty One. 11

3. Tell out my soul, the greatness of his might! Powers and dominions lay their glory by. Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight, the hungry fed, the humble lifted high. 4. Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word! Firm is his promise and his mercy sure. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord to children s children and for evermore!
