RESURRECTION MORN Jesus Did What He Said He Would Do! Our Daily BRead Junior Edition 4-12-09

SOMETHING YOU MUST KNOW: God is perfect. He is Holy. We are all sinners. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23a KJB) None of us could ever make ourselves perfect or holy to be accepted by God. But God loves us all so much, that He gave His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to go to the cross and pay the penalty for our sins IN FULL, ONCE and FOR ALL. Jesus died and rose again. Because of the Lord Jesus Christ, God can now make us holy and acceptable to Himself. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. (1 Peter 3:18 KJB) Jesus Christ is our ONLY WAY to God and heaven. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6 KJB) Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31 KJB) Without Jesus Christ, you can NEVER be accepted by God or go to heaven. When you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior, God makes you His child. When you leave this world, you will spend all of eternity with Him! But as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (John 1:12 KJB) While you are still here on earth, learn His beautiful Word. Believe it and obey it, so you can enjoy all God has done for you. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. (Colossians 3:16a KJB)

When Jesus lived down here on earth, He taught His disciples many important truths. He told them who He was. He told them that He was the Son of God. He told them that He had left His throne in heaven to come down to earth to show them what God was like. He told them that He came to die on the cross for them & all mankind. He told them that after He died on the cross, He was going to rise from the grave & go back up to heaven. He told them that He was going up to heaven to prepare a beautiful place for them to live up there with God too. He told them so many amazing & awesome things about God, about life, about themselves, about heaven, about hell! Now the bible tells us that when Jesus lived down here on earth, He looked like an ordinary man. So WHY would people at that time believe all these amazing & awesome things that Jesus said? Well, as you read through the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), you will learn that Jesus, though He LOOKED ordinary, was NOT by any means ORDINARY! Jesus did many MIGHTY MIRACLES which MANY, MANY people witnessed with their own eyes. These miracles were things that NO MERE MAN could ever do! These miracles were things that ONLY GOD could do! These miracles

PROVED that Jesus was EXACTLY whom He said He was God s Son from heaven, God who came down from heaven to enter a sinless body of flesh so that He could show us what God is like. He was God s Son from heaven, God who came down from heaven to go to the cross to pay for ALL of our sins & become the WAY for anyone at all who simply believes in Him to be saved from the fires of hell & instead live for all eternity with God as His child. You can read these truths about Jesus in scriptures such as Philippians 2:5-11; John 1:29; 2Corinthians 5:19-21; John 1:12-13; John 3:16-18,36; John 8:42; John 14:6; 1Timothy 2:3-5; 1John5:9-13 as well as many, many more. As you read your King James Bible each day, perhaps you can write down other verses also which tell these same truths. Then when people ask you WHO IS JESUS CHRIST & HOW THEY CAN KNOW HE IS REAL, you ll be able to POINT them to the parts of the WORD OF GOD which tell us these truths. And by the end of this lesson, you ll hopefully be able also to tell them some of the reasons WHY we can BELIEVE what God s Word says! That too is something Jesus MIRACLES proved! An example of one of the MIRACLES that Jesus did while He walked this earth inside His humble earthly body is saved for us to read in John 11. As you read about it, notice what Jesus did to accomplish this MIRACLE. Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. John 11:1KJB

Lazarus was Jesus friend. Lazarus was the brother of Martha & Mary. Jesus loved them all very much. When Lazarus got sick, Jesus was away in another town. Martha & Mary sent someone to tell Jesus that Lazarus was very sick. But Jesus did NOT go right away to see Lazarus Instead Jesus SPOKE some WORDS to His disciples who were with Him. Let s read what Jesus said about it: John 11:4 KJB When Jesus heard that he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. Note the underlined word SAID! Jesus SAID! Jesus SPOKE some WORDS! Jesus said that the reason Lazarus was sick at this time was NOT UNTO death, but for the glory of God! I wonder what the disciples thought when Jesus SPOKE those words. What would YOU have thought? Let s keep that word SAID in mind as we find out what happened. After Jesus got the sad news that Lazarus was sick, & AFTER Jesus spoke those words which we just read, Jesus waited 2 days & then SPOKE more WORDS. Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. John 11:11b KJB Now what would YOU think about Lazarus if YOU were there & heard Jesus speak THOSE words that Lazarus was sleeping? The disciples thought that Jesus meant that Lazarus was TAKING A REST & that Jesus was going to go to WAKE HIM UP! Jesus. Who IS GOD, knew what the disciples were thinking. But Jesus did NOT mean that Lazarus was taking a rest. And so Jesus SPOKE more words. Here is what He said: John 11:14-15 KJB

Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. Now if YOU were there, would YOU have remembered what Jesus SAID about that sickness being NOT unto death but for the glory of God that the Son of God (Jesus) might be glorified thereby? Would you have REMEMBERED & BE- LIEVED that Jesus SAID that He was going to awake him out of sleep? Would YOU have believed what Jesus had SAID about the sickness now that Lazarus WAS dead? Would you have wondered how Lazarus could be dead when Jesus said the sickness was NOT unto death? I don t know what I would have thought if I were there either! Well perhaps the disciples did NOT remember what Jesus had said about that sickness or perhaps they did not BELIEVE what Jesus had said about that sickness because one of them said: Let us also go, that we may die with him. John 11:15b KJB It seems that Jesus disciples did NOT remember or believe or maybe understand what Jesus had SAID about Lazarus. One of them was so discouraged that he wanted to die too! But let s REMEMBER & BELIEVE the WORDS that Jesus earlier SPOKE to them especially His words about the REA- SON for Lazarus sickness in the first place: that Lazarus sickness was for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. Let s also REMEMBER what Jesus SAID about why He was GLAD that they had not been there when Lazarus died. What was the reason? Reread John 11:15 & then write the missing words on the lines to complete that scripture below: And I am glad for your sakes that I was not

there, to the intent. What was it that Lazarus death would help them BELIEVE? Let s read what happened after Lazarus had been DEAD for 4 DAYS to see if we can find the answer to that question. Jesus arrived at the grave where Lazarus had been buried for 4 days. Martha & Mary, Lazarus sister, were very upset. They were even upset that Jesus had not come earlier to heal their brother. Martha & Mary believed that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God. They had seen Jesus HEAL other sick people. And now, Jesus would do an AWESOME MIRACLE so that others there would believe in Him too. Jesus was about to DO exactly what He SAID He would do! And exactly WHAT had Jesus SAID He would do? Do you remember? Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. And that is EXACTLY what Jesus did do! And make sure you notice HOW Jesus did it. Jesus had the people take away the stone from the grave. Jesus then prayed to His Father in heaven with WORDS that all the people there that day could HEAR HIM SPEAK! And then this happened: And when he (Jesus) thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bout with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. John 11:43 KJB Jesus did this miracle so that people would BELIEVE that He was God s Son from heaven. But there is something else that this miracle & all the other things that Jesus did show us that we must BELIEVE. What is it that we should BE- LIEVE? The words SAID & SPOKE which we told you to keep in mind give us a hint. Everything that Jesus SAID & SPOKE about Lazarus came TRUE! This miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead shows us that we should BELIEVE WHAT GOD SAYS! God speaks His Word & things happen exactly as He SAID! BELIEVING HIS WORD will help us in times of trouble. Jesus did miracles to teach people to BELIEVE that He was God & train them to BELIEVE the WORDS HE SPOKE. Just as He did when Lazarus got sick, Jesus would SPEAK HIS WORDS to His disciples to tell them things AHEAD of time so that when the things happened as He said, they would learn to BELIEVE Him no matter what He told them! This way when bad troubles came, they would NOT stay afraid or be overcome with worry. Read John 13:19. Also, when Jesus RAISED PEOPLE from the dead (Lazarus was not the only one whom Jesus awakened from death.), He was PREPARING them for the most awesome PROOF of all that He is the Son of God from heaven & that they should BELIEVE every Word He has SAID! BEFORE Jesus went to the cross,

He SAID WORDS to His disciples to PREPARE them for that day so that they would NOT stay afraid or discouraged when they saw His horrible crucifixion. Through all His miracles, Jesus had been training them to BELIEVE HIS WORD! Here is what Jesus SAID to His disciples BEFORE the cross: For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The son of man (That s Jesus.) is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. Mark 9:31KJB And then on that 3rd day after Jesus was buried as morning came, 2 of the woman who were disciples of Jesus went to the tomb. A special angel was sitting on the huge stone that had sealed Jesus tomb. And here is wonderful news which the angel told those sad women:...fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Matt 28:5-6 There is that word SAID! Though 3 whole days & nights had passed since Jesus had died & been laid in the tomb, Jesus DID WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO! He rose from that grave EXACTLY as He SAID! We can BELIEVE HIM! For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11 KJB
