NOVEMBER 2018 From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died. (Samuel J. Stone) A previous issue of Stewardship describes how a husband and wife manage their money. They use the envelope system. They take 12 envelopes, each of which are labeled with a word indicating where money put in that envelope is to go. For example, one envelope might have the word Home on it, another Food, still another Utilities and so forth. The first envelope in the stack was labeled Church. It was obvious that they realized God and the church were their first priority. That made sense because God is our Creator and the church is where we worship God, where we learn of God s will for our lives, where we join others in organizing to work on behalf of establishing God s kingdom on earth for which we regularly pray. The church is also where we have fellowship with other Christians, where we learn and laugh and share joys and sorrows, where we break bread together and where we sing: The church s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord, she is his new creation by water and the Word. The church was of great importance to this couple; here we are reminded that our lives are in God s hands and it is God s care that will guide us through whatever difficulties we face. It is here that we receive guidance and the assurance of God s love as we worship with the family of God. Prayer: Merciful God, help us to keep our focus upon you and the helpful guidance you offer us throughout our lives. In Christ s name we pray. Amen The Portville Food Pantry collects these items on an on-going basis: spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, pasta, mac and cheese, pork and beans, canned vegetables, tuna, soup, rice, egg noodles, and canned tomatoes. Cereal is also needed as well.

Dear Friends, Thank you so much for your generous contribution of $775.00. The office staff at the Front Street Service Store make it so easy for us to shop the specials each week and hold the balance of the money for us. So far we have purchased hot dogs, spaghetti sauce, eggs, cereal and peanut butter. And we still have more to spend! Thank you again for your generous support. The First Annual World Food Day Rally was a huge success. We collected over 250 non-perishable food items for the Portville Food Pantry. Food, Fun and fellowship followed the scavenger hunt. Thanks to all who participated, whether figuring out the clues or collecting the food. The boxes were decorated and judged. Many thanks to Jo and Ron Kile for their undying efforts to make this a success. Jo spent many hours organizing and contacting businesses etc. to get this set up. The success of this fundraiser was due to her hard work.

Our monthly breakfasts have started up again. November 3 rd will be our breakfast for this month and the next one will be on December 1 st. We have such a good time of fellowship as we prepare and serve these breakfasts. If anyone would like to come and help us we would love to have you.

The pulled pork dinner held on October 16 th to raise funds for Ruth Brewer s trip to Guatemala in August was also a success. We made around $475.00 dollars. Many of our church members supported this dinner as well as many of our local people in the community. Thanks to everyone for their hard work in making this happen and supporting this event..
