As you read or listen to God s Word and spend more time talking to Him in prayer, your spirit will eventually become stronger than your flesh. Prayer is as natural an expression of faith as breathing is of life. For me, prayer is not so much me setting out a shopping list of requests for God to consider as it is a way of keeping company with God. Through prayer, fasting, and studying, God will answer. Prayer is commitment. We don t merely co-operate with God with certain things held back within. We, the total person, co-operate. This means that co-operation equals commitment. Prayer begins where human capacity ends. A prayer in its simplest definition is merely a wish turned Godward.

The sovereign cure for worry is prayer. To ascertain the Lord s will, we ought to use scriptural means. Prayer, the word of God, and His Spirit should be united together. We should go to the Lord repeatedly in prayer, and ask Him to teach us by His Spirit through His word. Prayer reminds me it s not just about me. It s about all the people with whom I share this planet, and all of whom God has created, and all of whom he cares just as much about as he cares about me. As we regularly spend time reading God s Word and talking to Him in prayer, we put ourselves in position for Him to do things in our lives we could never do on our own. Most Christians expect little from God, ask little and therefore receive little and are content with little. Faith like a muscle, grows by stretching. When joy and prayer are married, their first born child is gratitude. Royalty is my identity. Servanthood is my assignment. Intimacy with God is my life source. Prayer delights God s ear; it melts His heart; and opens His hand. God cannot deny a praying soul. Spend more time in study and prayer. That s the secret of successful evangelism.

It is only when the whole heart is gripped with the passion of prayer that the life-giving fire descends, for none but the earnest man gets access to the ear of God. I must ask the Lord to direct the Holy Spirit within me to drain the life out of sin and in prayer. Fear not because your prayer is stammering, your words feeble, and your language poor. Jesus can understand you. Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except that which lies outside the will of God. Prayer means that the total you is praying. Your whole being reaches out to God, and God reaches down to you. I believe the greatest form of prayer is to praise God. God s first line of defense and offense for every situation is prayer. When the fire of prayer goes out, the barrenness of busyness takes over. There is nothing that makes us love a man so much as praying for him. Intercessory prayer might be defined as loving our neighbor on our knees. The Holy Ghost does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men men of prayer.

Prayer should be the key of the day and the lock of the night. Never was a faithful prayer lost. Some prayers have a longer voyage than others, but then they return with their richer lading at last, so that the praying soul is a gainer by waiting for an answer. Prayer helps to establish character and fashion conduct. Time spent in prayer is never wasted. Prayer is not a hard requirement it is the natural duty of a creature to its creator, the simplest homage that human need can pay to divine liberality. Prayer is the nearest approach to God and the highest enjoyment of Him that we are capable of in this life. O, let the secret place of prayer become to me the most beloved spot on earth. As a man prays, so he is. Rather than set aside daily time for prayer, I pray constantly and spontaneously about everything I encounter on a daily basis. The best and sweetest flowers of paradise God gives to His people when they are upon their knees. Prayer is the gate of heaven.

The story of Christian reformation, revival, and renaissance underscores that the darkest hour is often just before the dawn, so we should always be people of hope and prayer, not gloom and defeatism. God the Holy Spirit can turn the situation around in five minutes. Prayer is simply talking to God like a friend and should be the easiest thing we do each day. Spending time with God through prayer and His Word is a prerequisite for having a great life and fulfilling your purpose. To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing. There are many things that are essential to arriving at true peace of mind, and one of the most important is faith, which cannot be acquired without prayer. God, interrupt whatever we are doing so that we can join you in what you're doing. The victorious Christian neither exalts nor downgrades himself. His interests have shifted from self to Christ. The desire is thy prayers; and if thy desire is without ceasing, thy prayer will also be without ceasing. The continuance of your longing is the continuance of your prayer. Prayer is our invitation to God to intervene in the affairs of earth. It is our request for Him to work His ways in this world. Prayer is a strong wall and fortress of the church; it is a goodly Christian weapon.

Pray till prayer makes you forget your own wish, and leave it or merge it in God s will. Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays. True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that it is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth. Prayer requires more of the heart than of the tongue. For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God. Prayer open the heart to God, and it is the means by which the soul, though empty, is filled by God. Of all things, guard against neglecting God in the secret place of prayer. Prayer is simply a two-way conversation between you and God. Prayer is not about letting God know your will; it s about completely submitting to Him. You die to yourself. Frequent prayer has great value. On its surface, it sounds simplistic. But if we re to keep prayer at the forefront of our ministry, we and our people have to pray again and again. As a people of faith, we know that prayer is a powerful instrument. And as one Nation under God, we know that many times our most powerful tool is prayer.

The real end of prayer is not so much to get this or that single desire granted, as to put human life into full and joyful conformity with the will of God. Those who spend each day in the profound awareness that God does speak are in a wonderful position to receive his Word. When He speaks, it s in a language of our personal lives, through a verse or passage of Scripture that just seems to leap up off the page with our name on it. Four things let us ever keep in mind: God hears prayer, God heeds prayer, God answers prayer, and God delivers by prayer. The riddles of God are more satisfying than the solutions of man. I believe that God has related these somehow: the voice of conviction in the conscience and the Holy Spirit, the point of contact, witnessing within man s being. It is always perilous to resist the conscience within. Have you ever heard the Master say something very difficult to you? If you haven t, I question whether you have ever heard Him say anything at all. A reigning sense of God s peace confirms His voice to me. There may have been turmoil getting to that place, but when I have settled in on His desire for me, I am assured of that by the peace that accompanies it. Faith in God includes faith in His timing. Fervent prayers produce phenomenal results.

One of the most common reasons why we don t hear from God is perhaps the most obvious: We re not listening. Who rises from prayer a better man, his prayer is answered. I pray to start my day and finish it in prayer. To have God speak to the heart is a majestic experience, an experience that people miss if they monopolize the conversation and never pause to hear God s responses. Prayer is talking with God. God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as He is with the attitude of your heart. Prayer is the most concrete way to make our home in God. His will is our hiding place. If what you sense from God never contains anything that surprises you, you re probably making it up yourself. Nothing pleases God more than when we ask for what He wants to give. When we spend time with Him and allow His priorities, passions, and purposes to motivate us, we will ask for the things that are closest to His heart. Nothing in or of this world measures up to the simple pleasure of experiencing the presence of God.

Being joyful isn t what makes you grateful. Being grateful is what makes you joyful. The best way to keep the enemy out is to keep Christ in. I cannot control the voice of God or how it comes. I can only control my ears my readiness to listen and quickness to respond. The Lord leads us through His Word, through feelings, and through circumstances, and mostly through all three together. You must not allow yourself to hear without responding. Things don t change when I talk to God; things change when God talks to me. When I talk, nothing happens; when God talks, the universe comes into existence. The most eloquent prayer is the prayer through hands that heal and bless. For me, in my Christian belief, prayer is not an opportunity to manipulate God into doing what you want Him to. Prayer is an opportunity to have a conversation with God to try to get in tune with what His will is. Through prayer, fasting, and studying, God will answer. In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart. I deepen my experience of God through prayer, meditation, and forgiveness.

The reason we are more than we know is because God is greater than we can imagine. Just as God created man and woman in His image, the gods we choose to worship manifest their attributes in the worshipper. So in deciding what or whom to worship, you are making life decisions regarding your values, your priorities, and how you are to live. Praise is not complete until it has been expressed. The goodness of God gives us ample opportunities to be thankful. Worship is giving God the best that He has given you. Be careful what you do with the best you have. Whenever you get a blessing from God, give it back to Him as a love gift. Take time to meditate before God and offer the blessing back to Him in a deliberate act of worship. Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden. Fully to enjoy is to glorify. In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him. The greatest tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, but unoffered prayer. The Master says (and the experience of His people has confirmed) that men of strong faith are men of much prayer. I know that the Lord is always on the side of the right; but it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I and this nation may be on the Lord s side. Could it be that if we finally placed all that we have, all that we aspire to, all that we are before God on the altar of worship, that He would return it to us filled with His light and transformed by His glory?

Some things may be neglected with but little loss to the spiritual life, but to neglect communion with God is to hurt ourselves where we cannot afford it. At the root of God s revelation to His creation, worship is shown as the prerequisite for man s ability to receive and live within the high possibilities and rich benediction of God s plan. To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, and to devote the will to the purpose of God. A Christian is not a man who never goes wrong, but a man who is enabled to repent and pick himself up and begin over again after each stumble because the Christ-life is inside him, repairing him all the time, enabling him to repeat (in some degree) the kind of voluntary death which Christ Himself carried out. Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference. We think of prayer as a preparation for work, or a calm after having done work, whereas prayer is the essential work. Worship is the secret place that hides the heart from the advances of the enemy. Sometimes God wraps His glory in hard circumstances or ugly obstacles or painful difficulties, and it just never occurs to us that within those life-shaking events is a fresh revelation from Him. No duty is more earnestly impressed upon us in Scripture than the duty of continual communion with Him.

There are parts of our calling, works of the Holy Spirit, and defeats of the darkness that will come no other way than through furious, fervent, faith-filled, unceasing prayer. God is looking for people to use, and if you can get usable, he will wear you out. The most dangerous prayer you can pray is this: Use me. God is still pursuing you after you ve placed your faith in Him not to burden you with more tasks on the to-do list or to whip you into shape, but to love you. He pursues you with an intensity that can breathe life into you. The reason God desires our worship is because He desires a personal relationship with each of His children. God has given worship as a means for man s recovery, restoration, reviving, redemption, and refreshing. With the goodness of God to desire our highest welfare, the wisdom of God to plan it, and the power of God to achieve it, what do we lack? Surely we are the most favored of all creatures. Oh, how often we thwart God s interventions on our behalf by taking up our own cause or by striking a blow in our own defense! May God grant each of us this silent power and submissive spirit. Expect to be challenged. The enemy won t go down without a fight. But expect great progress. I would have no desire other than to accomplish thy will. Teach me to pray; pray thyself in me.

God speaks to us through the reading and preaching of His word in Scripture. It is important for our worship to recognize that when we hear or read the Word of God, we encounter God Himself. Who He is and what He is up to in my life these things are worth boasting about.
