We thank and praise God that Margaret, Maurice and Fran were able to spend the last moments together before Heaven welcomed Margaret to be with her beloved Lord. Margaret was also the precious grandmother of Sam and Elise. Many folk will remember Margaret who worked at South Queensland Divisional Headquarters before her retirement and served as a soldier at Brisbane City Temple Corps for many years. The Salvation Army is pleased to announce that we will be opening a state of the art respite facility located in Bracken Ridge within the next few months. This new facility will meet all disability requirements and standards for respite and will be staffed by a fully qualified team of caring and committed people. This service will offer both emergency respite support and pre-planned respite support which can be booked up to 12 months in advance based on the need of the family and individual. We will soon be opening a waiting list and further communication will be forthcoming when this occurs. The demand for respite services continues to grow. In a recent study regarding demand for service against capacity to provide services, it was revealed that 1631 people are in need of respite either in home or centre based. Out of the 963 people indicating a need for respite accommodation, children up to the age of 18 were identified as the most in need of this type of service (585 children needing respite) and the next highest being young adults 18-25 (188 young people needing respite). The Salvation Army recognises the pressure and strain on families that care for someone with a disability and having examined this need we have responded by planning over the past 12 months to build a respite facility for families who have a loved one with a disability. The main purpose of this respite facility is to give families the opportunity to take a break, plan a holiday or in fact just have that time to take care of themselves, relax and unwind for a period of time whilst having the assurance that their loved one is being supported in a safe, caring environment. If you require further information in relation to respite, costs or to arrange a needs assessment then please contact SAILSS Office on 33680700. DATE SAVER Every adult who is involved in any way with children, youth and leadership at BCT Corps is required to attend training to meet The Salvation Army Safe Salvos requirements. Please save this date. Safe Salvos training will be held at BCT on Sunday 12th October, 2014 from 1pm to 6pm.
