Confession and Pardon The Reverend Dr. David Smazik Prayer of Confession (unison) God of mercy and love, ours is a world wracked by violence and consumed by a need for power and control. We confess our complacency in this when we think that violence occurs in other communities, but not ours. We confess our desire to sweep such ugliness under the rug. We confess our helplessness in thinking we can do nothing as Christians to bring change. Teach us to enact your wisdom and grace in our relationships. Help us as we strive to be the love and justice of Jesus Christ to those around us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Kyrie: Hymn 577 Lord, Have Mercy Kyrie Eleison (Reindorf) sung using Greek text Kyrie eleison Silent Prayer Assurance of Pardon (responsively) Leader: I will wipe away every tear, says the Lord. Behold, I am making all things new. Leader: For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but God s steadfast love shall not depart from us. God s covenant of peace shall not be removed, for the Lord has compassion on us. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. * Response: Hymn 584 Glory, Glory, Glory Cuequita * Passing of the Peace A Time for Young Christians Alexandra Mead Prayer for Illumination (unison) Guide us, O God, by your Word and Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find freedom, and in your will discover your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 2
