Next Steps Slowly re-read Psalm 27; Romans 8:31-39 and commit to read these everyday this week. Respond to the following: Fear s default attack mode is the future the unknown. We must replace what we don t know about the future with what we do know about God. It s not the absence of problems we should be looking for, it s Who we run to in the midst of problems: an all knowing, caring, loving Christ. When fear of the unknown shapes our lives, safety and avoidance becomes our god. When safety becomes our god, we worship the risk-free life. The worship of safety and control undermines freedom and growth. In the Psalms, David does not pray for relief but for God s presence, perspective, and protection. Read Romans 12:1 Dr. Chuck Swindoll said, The problem with a living sacrifice is that it keeps crawling off the altar. What has God revealed to you in your life that needs surrendering to Him. What if anything in your life keeps crawling off the altar? What do you believe God wants you to learn from your readings this week (What have you learned about God through your readings)? This week s prayer challenge: Don t put limitations on a limitless God. Isaiah 43:1-2 NLTSB But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. 2When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. Philippians 4:6-7 NLTSB Don t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Jeremiah 17:7-8 But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. New Covenant Community Church April 3, 2016
