Jim The KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS extends an invitation to all members of St. Peter parish to attend the Memorial Day Mass at St. John Cemetery in Washington. The Mass is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Bring a lawn chair if you wish to have a seat. This special Mass commemorates all the men and women who have served in the military of our country. In God s name we thank them for their service and we especially remember those who gave their lives to preserve our country and all that it offers. This, after all, is the real reason for the Memorial Day Holiday. Breakfast will be served at the K of C Club for a nominal fee. In the event of rain, the Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Hope Church in Washington. CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO Nathan Hart and Ashley Delaney who will exchange their vows of marriage this Saturday. God bless them with many happy years together. PRAY FOR THE SICK AND SHUT-INS OF OUR PARISHES. Remember all our parishioners who have special needs. CEMETERY BOARD MEETING The combined board which cares for St. Peter, St. Michael, St. Patrick and Glencoe cemeteries will meet on Wednesday, May 25 th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Fellowship Center. All who previously were members of the separate cemetery boards are asked to attend this meeting. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - If you want (plan) on helping with Vacation Bible School at St. Peter this summer, you must first submit to a background check. It is required by the diocese of Evansville. It is part of the best practices for the protection of our children. St. Peter parish will pick up the expense of the background check. It is a painless procedure. You will also be required to attend a training session on safe environment. It too is a painless experience. Contact Donna Bradley to discover what all this entails and how to go about doing all this. The best way to contact her about this matter is email. dmbradley@evdio.org. Her cell phone is 812-698-0185. MINISTRY SHEETS This weekend and next, we will post the names and ministries of all who have returned the ministry sheets. Check to see if you are listed under the correct ministry. If you are not, add your name. If you are listed in the wrong ministry, cross off your name and add it where it should be. When we have corrected all the information, we will begin contacting you about the exercise of your ministry. Thanks to all who competed and returned a sheet. ELECTION YEAR THOUGHTS Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner. James Bovard TOWER RESTORATION The fund balance is currently $44,200.00. We will continue to accept gifts up to the time of construction. Thank you to all who have contributed. HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR CATHOLIC FAITH? What is the original meaning of Pentecost?

Pentecost Sunday May 15, 2016 [I]n one spirit we were all baptized into one body. 1 Corinthians 12:13a ANSWER: The Jewish feast of Pentecost originally celebrated the Festival of Weeks, or Harvest or First Fruits. It occurred 50 days after Passover. Later it celebrated the spring feast of thanks which ended the grain harvest. Now, in the Church, we celebrate Pentecost 50 days after Easter as the day on which the Holy Spirit, the helper Jesus promised to send, descended upon the Apostles in a mighty way. The Church took the Jewish feast and gave it new meaning and importance while retaining the same name. ILLUMINATE Young ladies (junior high and high school) of St. Peter are invited to be a part of Illuminate 2016 on Saturday, June 4, 2016. The conference is free to all participants. Kids will learn to discover, respect, protect, serve and celebrate life. There is a basic introduction to the Theology of the Body along with lessons on what it means to be a child of God. This pro-life themed VBS is packed with rock-solid songs, unforgettable games, cool crafts, and interactive activities that will motivate kids ages 4-11 to live their lives with passion and purpose. Have you ever thought of looking deep into the history of the Church? Or perhaps you feel a call to something more, but you aren t sure what that something more is. Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology offers a theological degree program tailored to fit the busy schedules of working parents, college graduates, as well as retirees. Many students attend Saint Meinrad simply to grow in faith, in knowledge, in Christian maturity, and in their capacity to serve and minister. Founded and administered by the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, our school focuses on the Benedictine value of combining holiness and learning. If you would like more information about our programs, please accept our invitation to a complimentary weekend at the Hill June 25-26. Prospective students will enjoy a tour of Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church and School, a preview of the classes offered, and informational presentations on what you can expect while attending Saint Meinrad. We hope you will come! For questions or more information, call 1-800- MEINRAD or go online at www.saintmeinrad.edu/openhouse Catholic Charities will sponsor Engaged Encounter weekends SEPTEMBER 17-18, 2016, at the Sarto Retreat Center in Evansville. Did you know that the Indiana Catholic Conference (ICC) is the official public policy voice of the Catholic Church in Indiana regarding state and national matters? The ICC encourages you to join the Indiana Catholic Action Network (I-CAN) to follow the Church s position on each issue and Indiana House and Senate activity and receive an Action Alert email before a vote on a key issue takes place. To join, visit www.indianacc.org or contact Dominic Faraone with questions at 812-423-5456. If you would like to help the 40 Days for Life Organization, please come to the Bloomington Abortion Clinic and pray with them. In doing so, you may be able to change a mother s decision and save a life in the process. Many lives have been saved by good Christian people being there at these abortion chambers and praying for mothers as they contemplate abortion. If you would like to spend one hour or more at the Abortion Clinic in Bloomington, contact Liz Kavanaugh (486-3658) or Pat Jones (295-6525).
