Next Sunday will be the beginning of Advent. Friday is the feast day of Saint Andrew the Apostle. We know that he was born near the sea of Galilee. His brother was Simon Peter. He was a fisherman. He and his brother were the first called by Jesus to follow him. The Gospel of John mentions he was a disciple of St. John the Baptist. He preached in the area of Ukraine, Russia and ended up near Greece where he was martyr by crucifixion in the form of an X. St Andrew Pray for Us. Have a Great Week. Fr. Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, I hope you all had a very blessed Thanksgiving holiday. Last week, I was very excited to announce the names of our 8th grade students who made Honor Roll for the first quarter. This week, we are also very pleased to announce the names of our 7th grade students who have made Honor Roll for the first quarter of this school year. In order to be placed on the honor roll, the family handbook states the conditions. It says: "If the average of all subjects is 94.5% or above and there are no N's or U's in general conduct, the student will be placed on the First Honor Roll for the quarter. If the average of all of these subjects is 89.5% to 94.4% and there are no N's or U's in general conduct, the student will be placed on the First Honor Roll for the quarter. Students on either Honor Roll receive a special certificate of Academic Achievement in their report card each quarter they are on the Honor Roll." Among 7th grade students, we had 62% make the Honor Roll for the first quarter. In 7th grade, 29% were placed on the First Honor Roll and 33% received Second Honors. The 7th grade Honor Roll students are as follows: First Honors: Schuyler Achola, Lilly Risch Bakhit, Ruby Cunningham, Abby Drexel, Caitlyn Dunham, Martha Engel, Simon Goitom, Lily Hanna, Paul Hansen, Madeline Hartley, Owen Jensen, Isabella Johnson, Jack Johnson, Mary Kelly, Mary Matuella, Sam Newell, Delaney O Doherty, Gabe O Doherty, Will O Doherty, Sophia Owens, Kenadie Rudloff, Josephine Salzman, Brooklyn Sauer, Alex ten Bensel, Giuliana Weber and Scarlett Wharton. Second Honors: Patrick Ahianti, Kyra Bekaert, Bailey Benson, Caden Bosiljevac, Logan Chambers, Maggie Chattin, Gwen Corcoran, Caleb Djossou, Philip Drew, Sam Fillmore, Ashley Hankel, Finnegan Hogan, Abi Howard, Hserney Htooboo, Carly James, Tanner Kreifels, Celia Macias, Charlie Mangan, Ziyad Mohammed, Adam Otwell, Damien Peteler, Ellie Peter, Leo Ramsey, Ben Roecker, Daniel Rusch, Madalyn Sack, Zach Sall, Riley Shaal and Graclyn Temme. As you can tell, we have many 7th grade students who are studying very hard both academically and behaviorally! We also know that there are many other 7th and 8th graders who are working very hard in those areas, but just didn't quite make the honor roll. We also salute these students! Our thanks to these students for their hard work and to their parents for the wonderful support they provide to their children. It takes everyone working together, the students, their parents and the teachers to succeed with such outstanding academic achievement. Congratulations to all! Great job Panthers! In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman The idea of having a king as our leader is foreign to us in the United States. Our country celebrates our independence and self-reliance. Sometimes our independence and pride can get us into trouble. We often fail to find the real meaning of life, because we don t recognize the truth our Lord is trying to convey. Christians are called to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and also recognize him as King. When we say the Our Father we say, your kingdom come, your will be done. Do we really mean dear Lord be our king? Our readings today speak of our KING who should be one we look up to and allow him to lead our lives. The prophet Daniel tell us that our Lord s kingship will be an everlasting dominion and will be for all nations and peoples. Admittedly, our world is far from that kingship, but that kingdom must start in our own heart. The Lord s kingdom is within us and our hope is to arrive in his heavenly kingdom. In our gospel today, Jesus tells Pilate, My kingdom does not belong to this world. He goes on to tell him that He was born to testify to the truth and that everyone who belongs to the truth listens to His voice. In our independence and pride are we failing to listen to the truth? Jesus is our Lord, Savior and King. He is the faithful witness, who loves us and has freed us from our sins. He is the Alpha and the Omega. The one who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty, the King of the Universe and of our lives! St. Leo Knights of Columbus Our Next Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for December 16 with proceeds going to the St. Leo Human Needs.
