Living in forgiveness Luke 7:36-50
Oh, how hard it is to find sinners: I would be willing to go any distance to find a sinner who recognizes his need of a savior. An American Evangelist
Luke 7:36-50 Then one of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. He entered the Pharisee s house and reclined at the table. And a woman in the town who was a sinner found out that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee s house.
Luke 7:36-50 She brought an alabaster jar of perfume and stood behind him at his feet, weeping, and began to wash his feet with her tears. She wiped his feet with her hair, kissing them and anointing them with the perfume.
Luke 7:36-50 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, This man, if he were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him she s a sinner!
Luke 7:36-50 Jesus replied to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. He said, Say it, teacher. A creditor had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Since they could not pay it back, he
Luke 7:36-50 graciously forgave them both. So, which of them will love him more? Simon answered, I suppose the one he forgave more. You have judged correctly, he told him. Turning to the woman, he said to Simon,
Luke 7:36-50 Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she, with her tears, has washed my feet and wiped them with her hair.you gave me no kiss, but she hasn t stopped kissing my feet since I came in.
Luke 7:36-50 You didn t anoint my head with olive oil, but she has anointed my feet with perfume. Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; that s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little. Then he said to her, Your sins are forgiven.
Luke 7:36-50 Those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves, Who is this man who even forgives sins? And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.
Luke 7:39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, This man, if he were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him she s a sinner!

3. Your capacity to love
Luke 7:41-43 A creditor had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Since they could not pay it back, he graciously forgave them both. So, which of them will love him more? Simon answered, I suppose the one he forgave more.
Luke 7:47 Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; that s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little.
Ephesians 2:1 And when you were dead in your trespasses and sins.
1 timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.
Simon has the same capacity to love this sinful woman does. he needs to first recognize the cost of his sin.
Luke 7:49-50 Those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves, Who is this man who even forgives sins? And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.
1 timothy 1:15-16 This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners and I am the worst of them. But I received mercy for this reason, so that in me, the worst of them, Christ Jesus might demonstrate his extraordinary patience as an example to those who would believe in him for eternal life.
Your capacity to love depends on how accurately you see yourself, and how accurately you see your savior.
So what? 1. You should view every person as available for forgiveness.
So what? 2. You should not hate yourself because of sin but should repent and rejoice.
So what? 3. You should live in forgiveness and love more.
