All (sung): What can I give him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; if I were a wise man, I would do my part, yet what I can I give him give my heart. Offertory Prayer All: Loving God, we are in awe of the great gift you gave us your very self, in the form of a baby born long ago and far away, who came to bring you ever more present in our world and in our lives. Help us to respond, not just this day but every day, by giving of our very selves, that together we might help make the world a better place for all. Amen. Communion Carol Once in Royal David s City One: Glory to God in the highest! All: And on earth, peace to all! One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up to God. One: Let us give thanks to God. All: It is right to give God thanks and praise VU 62 One: Blessed are you gracious God, Creator of light, Giver of all life, Source of love. We bless you for all your gifts. You bring creation to birth and send

prophets to awaken us to your presence among us. We praise you for that holy night of hope and the wonder of this time of joy. We praise you that your everlasting light is shown to us in womb and tomb, in cradle and cross, in tenderness and compassion. For Jesus Christ, in whom you gather the hopes and fears of all the years, we bless your Holy Name, joining with all your people of every time and place, and with the angels who proclaim the holy birth: All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. One: Let us remember together the vision of God s reign shown to us in Jesus at the table: All: He shared food with followers and friends. One: With saints and sinners, All: with crowds of thousands on the hillside, One: and a few friends in an upper room. All: On the night before he died, he had supper with his friends.

One: He took a loaf of bread, and after giving thanks, he broke it, and gave it to them, saying: All: Take, eat. Do this in remembrance of me. One: Then, he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he passed it among them, saying: All: Drink this. Do this in remembrance of me. One: Through this loaf and cup, Jesus lives within us. All: In word and deed, Jesus lives among us. One: By this bread and cup, we remember Christ and share in the mystery of faith: All: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. One: Send, O God, your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, that all who share in this bread and cup may be the body of Christ: light, life and love in the world. In this hope, and as your people, we praise you: All: through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the

unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, God most holy, now and forever. Amen Lord s Prayer: (In unison) Distribution of the Elements Prayer after Communion All: We give thanks, Loving God, that you have refreshed us at your table by granting us the presence of Jesus Christ. Strengthen our faith, increase our love for one another, and send us forth into the world united in courage and peace, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit; through Jesus Christ. Amen. Scripture Reading Congregational Carol Luke2:8-20 Benediction One: As the shepherds returned home glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen so we go out now, to tell the world the simple and transforming news:

All: The Word of God, that created the world and declared it good, has come to live among us. One: Wherever you go, may you know that God is always with you, and loves you without reserve. All: Thanks be to God! Amen. Sending Forth Carol: Joy to the World VU 59 Musical Postlude Today s Service and Bulletin is Dedicated in Loving Memory of Don & Annie Bustin & Lyle & Georgia Crane by Creighton & Veneita Bustin Our father & grandfather Douglas Evans by Tracy, Sherry, Angie, Bryan & families Lila and Allison Shillington & William Hickie by Joan & John Hickie and families Just a reminder that there will be no service at Silver Falls on Sunday, Jan. 1/17. Instead, there will be a combined service at Glen View starting at 9:30am.

Loving God, Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Amen. -- Robert Louis Stevenson
