Part 1: Memorize the Word (, 20, 30, or 40 marks) Decide how many of the verses you'd like to memorize - 5,, 15, or 20. If you don t memorize all 20 verses, on this page, circle, underline or highlight the references that you memorize. Two marks will be deducted for each error or prompt. Verses can be said at school or at home. Verses must be said in 1 sitting. A parent/guardian signature is needed on the first page. Proverbs 1:7-9 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 8 Listen, my son to your father s instruction and do not forsake your mother s teaching. 9 They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. Ecclesiastes 3:1,6 1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the 6 heavens: a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, Proverbs 22:3 The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. 2 Peter 2:19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity for people are slaves to whatever has mastered them. Philippians 2:12-13 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Proverbs 6:6-8 6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. Proverbs 6:16-19 16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Romans 12:17-18 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. NOTE: Your Scripture Project must be submitted to Blackboard AND a hard copy must be given to Mr. V. by the established deadline. Part 2: Reflect on the Word (50 marks)

Think about the verses and how they apply to your life. Answer the following questions. Your answers MUST be personal, use I, me, mine, etc., not us, we, our. Be sure to include the letters A and B for each verse or grouping. So, that means you should have a total of reflections for each of our verse options. (For example: Your first reflection will be Proverbs 1:7-9 and you have sections A and B under it.) Your reflection must be typed. A.) What do these verses mean to you? This will be the lengthier part of the reflection. (You must reflect on all of the verses separately. Explain each verse as if you are doing Student in the Spotlight. Each verse (or each grouping of verses) should be explained in 3-5 sentences. Use words like I, my, me. Put the verse explanation in your own words. Don t just use the same words contained in the verse to explain it.) Leave spaces between the A and B responses. B.) How do these verses fit into your life? (Use words like I, my, me. ) You must do B for each verse or grouping of verses. Describe a situation where these verses would apply to your life. (Write about a specific situation where you can apply or have already applied these verses to your life.) You are describing a personal situation, incident or event. Be specific and give details. For example: Don t say while experiencing a difficult time but choose a difficult time such as losing a grandparent and write about it. (minimum 3-5 sentences) Part 3: Interact with the Word ( marks each) Clearly indicate on your work which choice(s) you are doing: (Interact #1, Interact #6, etc.) YOUR CHOICE! Do as many activities as you need to total 0 marks for Project. An Interact assignment cannot be repeated and must be typed where applicable. 1. Research the Biblical context of one of the verses. Research means to give as much background information as possible. Who wrote the verse? (Name and explain who he/she was) When was it written? To whom was it directed? Give some background information about why the verse was directed to this group(s). Why is this verse still important today? (For the last question on the verse s importance, write at least 7 sentences.) Use your own words and include a bibliography. 2. Write new lyrics to an existing song or rap that highlight the key verses in this Scripture. Include: the old and new lyrics, the song title and artist. Explain what key verses your new song lyrics explain and write the explanation beside it. 3. Create an original piece of artwork based on this Scripture, not computer generated. (Artwork must be on a blank page, use the whole page and use a ruler to draw lines.) Effort needs to be evident in the artwork. Tell why you made the artistic choices you did and how they relate to the Scripture. Some examples of artwork are: a painting, a sketch, a playdoh figurine, a Lego creation, jewelry, sculpture (wood, metal, plastic), string art, a T-shirt design, etc.

4. Pick key words from the Scripture and underline them too on this Interact question and within our Scripture verses. Find out the Greek or Hebrew derivative for each word and give the original meaning of the word. (Hebrews is Old Testament and Greek is New Testament) How does knowing the original meaning of the word expand your understanding of the Scripture? Use your own words and include a bibliography. 5. Choose one of our verses and write your own devotional (using your own words) which includes a title, the verse, commentary, including at least one other verse not in our Scripture, some bolded, key points and a prayer which should be 3 sentences about your topic. Use Pastor Leon's Devoted devotional as a guideline. 6. Read the Message version of these verses. Compare and contrast at least 3 verses. Type out both versions of each verse and then, do the write-up. How are the translations the same? Different? Make sure you include examples and explain the difference of the wording, not just point out the different words! Do you feel the Message version captures the essence of these verses? Why or why not? 7. Find a song that is the same theme as these verses. Write out the lyrics and include the song title and artist. Why do you think it relates to this Scripture? You should be connecting each stanza to our theme. What made this song stand out to you? 8. Find another Scripture verses that fit this theme. Write out the verse and the reference. Explain how each verse you chose fits the theme? 9. Write a children s story. Incorporate some verses and have a moral lesson based on this term s topic. Create a title page which also has the story s title, an illustration and the author s name. Other illustrations within the story are optional. Before the story, briefly explain its moral. Minimum story length is 6 typed pages with 5 sentences minimum per page.. Create a music video for a song related to our topic of being successful in life. The video must portray the meaning of the song. A copy of the lyrics must be included as well as the artist s name. In a paragraph of 8- sentences, explain how the video connects with the song lyrics. Please log your time while doing this project. Project must first be approved by your teacher. 11. You have been hired by your church to produce a video to show to the congregation, 1 ½ - 2 min. long, highlighting one of the principles studied this semester. The video should be Spirit Contemporary meaning that it should connect with people in a nonintimidating/non-freaky way. Being Spirit Contemporary is the ability to share your faith and be real, contemporary and relevant to today s society. It s important to reach all ages and all generations. Use your knowledge from Digital Pictures to shoot using various angles/shots. The video should be appealing, attractive and summarize one of the principles and explain how that principle can improve one s life. Please remember to log your hours. (This may be worth more than one Interact section based on the time put into making the video. Please see your teacher.)

12. Other possible, original ideas: (Meaning it has to be your own poem, script, etc. that you created.) Script (use script guidelines) minimum 4 pages Comic strip (minimum 8 blocks/scenes) Poem (minimum 14 lines) Board game Diorama Book recommendation In a paragraph of 6-8 sentences, explain how your assignment connects to the theme. 13. Make a suggestion to the teacher, and get approval, for another way to interact with the Word. Note: If you choose a lengthier interact, please log your hours and submit them with your project. Come and talk to me before submitting project. The Interact may be the only one that needs to be submitted if you are required to do more than one. (It could be worth 20 instead of.)
