www.wowcenter.org You Shouldn t Take NO For An Answer Have you ever heard that expression said about someone: They just won t take NO for an answer!? The situation against them was difficult. The circumstance caused others to look for another solution or give up. We have all had situations/circumstances that seemed too hard to cope with, out of reach; we were exhausted with no energy left to deal with it. This is the story of Luke 18 where Jesus told about the woman who had a problem she could not solve. She had tried all the right ways; but no answer was coming. Nevertheless, she wouldn t take NO for an answer. Luke 18:1-8 Jesus spoke this parable so that people/his followers should always pray and not lose heart. What kind of prayer life do you have? o Hit and miss, occasionally checking in with the Lord when there is trouble in your life? o Sporadic due to your priorities not being in alignment with His will for your life? o Or, are you consistent, regular, faithful viewing prayer as a relationship you enjoy having with the Lord. o Prayer is not a system/program to just get what you want from God. Prayer is a relationship with God to collaborate with Him to bring His will on the earth through you, in you, and with you. 1. Jesus indicated that people who always pray do not lose heart. Lose Heart = Become weary, lose hope. Faint KJV. To be weak, weary, tired, worn out to the point of quitting failure. What is causing you to Lose Heart be weary to the point of quitting? Giving up on believing for your marriage, a better job, your kids success, your health to improve, the pain to stop in your body, your heart. Frustration with your own life it s just not going anywhere, not the way I thought it should. We certainly are living in a day when there are multiple reasons to cause us to be weary and lose heart. Repetitive issues that never seem to find a resolution are wearing us down,

Just the frustrations of everyday life with its complicated systems is a cause for stress. 2. Jesus also indicated that Prayer encourages steadfastness and guards against disheartedness during the delay of Jesus return. Because of the pressures being so great today, nothing we do in life is easy anymore. People everywhere, even believers, are trying to make sense of this world and situations and are looking for answers and some sense of peace and comfort in a very unstable time. This is a common occurrence in every culture that neglects putting the Lord first in their lives. This is the fruit of partaking of the forbidden fruit of putting ourselves first and what God has for us on the shelf. Humankind still struggles with putting what we think is life, before what the Lord knows will give us life. But Jesus, Himself, is giving us the remedy against becoming weak and losing heart and Succumbing to the pressures we face. [Describe the woman]: NOT FOR POWER POINT just that note, not the verses to follow. v. 2 There was a judge who didn t fear God nor had regard/respect for man. This describes the justice system of then and today. Not just America, but also the world has forgotten the ways of God s law. It has become as it was in the days of the Judges of Israel: Judges 21:25 In those days the Israelites did not have a king/leader; so every man does what was right in his own eyes. Prov. 30:12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, but they have done nothing to remove the filth of their sin. 2 Chron. 19:6-7 He told the judges, be careful in what you are doing, because you are not judging for people, but for the Lord. He will be with you when you make decisions. You must fear the Lord. Protect justice and do what is right because the Lord our God is fair. He does not treat some people as if they are more important than others, and he does not accept bribes to change his judgments. Prov 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a person, but the end are the ways of death. www.wowcenter.org 2

V.3 The widow in that city: She came to the right place the judge. She was law abiding came expecting the system to execute righteousness for her as a citizen but found no justice. The system was broken. She pleaded: Get justice for me from my adversary. AVENGE ME. She went to the proper authority but it was corrupt. The judge didn t fear/reverence God or respect man or people. Not all, but too many of those who are elected or hired to represent The People have forgotten who placed them in office or who pays their salary. Psa. 68:5 God is a Father of the fatherless, orphan and a Judge of widows, God is in His Holy Habitation. Mark 12:40 Jesus warns against taking advantage of widows. But they cheat widows and take their homes. Then they try to make themselves look good by saying long prayers. God will punish them very much. 1 Tim. 5:3 Take care of the widows who really need help. 3. Contrast: The unrighteous/godless judge vs. the goodness of God, the Judge of all the earth. v. 4-5 But the judge did not want to help/avenge the woman. This went on for a while, but the judge thought about it. Not caring about God, or about what people think. But this woman is bothering/annoying me. If I give her what she wants, then she will leave me alone. But if I don t give her what she wants, she will bother me until I am sick. Contrast: Avenge Me: Her legal plea was vindicate me, get justice for me, and punish those who are abusing me. Legally deal with those who had violated her rights. Taken advantage of her, cheated her, exploited her, whatever happened was wrong and the law should have been on her side. But the ungodly judge wouldn t do anything. Was he paid off by someone to assist in taking advantage of this widow? Was he just a mean person who had a position in office and forgot he was there to serve the people who had put him there and now corrupted? www.wowcenter.org 3

The judge said: This widow by her continual coming is wearying me/ wearing me down. But The JUDGE of all the earth, your Heavenly Father says: Those who always pray never lose heart or become weary. v. 6 Jesus said: Here what this unjust judge said; I do not fear God nor respect man; but because she keeps coming and petitioning me, I m going to avenge her with justice lest she weary me wear me out! Her persistence - patience and tenacity won a place on the judge s docket. v. 7-8 Jesus also said: God s people will be avenged and defended by the Lord. Those who cry out to Him day and night will be answered. Will He delay on their behalf? I tell you that He will defend and avenge them quickly. Psa. 34:15 prayers. The Lord watches over those who do what is right, and He hears their Psa. 102:20 He will hear the prisoner s prayers, He will free those who were condemned to die. Psa. 17:1 Lord, hear my prayer for justice, I am calling loudly to You, I m being honest in what I say; so please listen to my prayer. Psa. 5:3 Every morning, Lord, I lay my gift before You and look to You for help. Every morning, YOU hear my prayer. Prov. 15:8 The Lord hates the offering of the wicked, but He is happy to hear the prayer of those who love right. v. 26 The Lord is far away from the wicked; but He always hears the prayers of those who do what is right. I stopped counting after 75 times where the Lord hears the prayer of those who love Him. www.wowcenter.org 4

4. The point of contrast Jesus made between earthly man s justice system and God s Kingdom: God is willing and ready and able to hear answer act on behalf of those who call on His name. We are not widows; we are members of His own Body the Bride of His Son. We can and should expect the Just Judge our Father, to bring us righteousness for the wrong we suffer. God s will is for us to defeat the adversity and for His will be brought forth in our lives. v. 8 Jesus said: Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth? The truth Jesus wants us to get today is: NEVER GIVE UP ON ANY MATTER OF PRAYER & CONTINUE TO BE PERSISTENT AND NOT GIVE UP BECOME WEARY. EVEN THOUGH THE ANSWERS ARE DELAYED THIS DOES NOT MEAN DENIAL. P.U.S.H. PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS Heb. 11:6 Without faith it is impossible to walk with God and please Him, for whoever comes to God [in prayer] must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly and diligently seek Him. -0- www.wowcenter.org 5
