A LETTER FROM YOUR L E A D P A S T O R Dear Friends, As you receive this newsletter, we are rolling along in our Biblical Community worship series, focusing on the One Another s of the New Testament. In November, we ll be looking at Agreeing with One Another, Bearing One Another s Burdens, and Forgiving One Another. The community of the Body of Christ is meant to be a major source of encouragement and support in our lives. It also provides a laboratory for us to practice serving each other, praying for each other, sharing faith with each other and loving each other so we gain confidence to live a life of discipleship and witness in our families, our schools, our workplaces and our neighborhoods. In addition to the main worship emphasis of Biblical Community, we ll have several special events in November. On November 5, we will celebrate Holy Communion and All Saints Sunday. We will read the names of persons who have been part of our congregation and have passed away in the past year. We will light a candle and toll a bell and remember their lives and witness with a moment of silence. The All Saints celebration is always a moving and holy moment. On November 12, we will receive new members. Eight persons are participating in the membership classes during Family Night Live and will have the opportunity to step into the membership covenant to support this church with their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service and their witness. It s always a joyful thing to receive new members, isn t it? On November 19, Jean Watson will return to sing, play and testify to the grace and love and power of Jesus Christ. Jean will share musically throughout the service, and will bless us with a powerful message during the sermon time all interwoven with her music and singing. You won t want to miss hearing Jean! Then, of course, November 23 is Thanksgiving Day. That day the Dominick s will gather with family in Muncie and give thanks to God for another year of life, for blessings beyond measure, for our family and our freedom. And I will give thanks for you. I get the privilege to serve a great church here at Dayton UMC. Your faithfulness to Jesus, your love for one another and for Shirley and me, your servant lives and your encouragement and prayers are amazing and gracious gifts in our lives. Thank you for loving us and for responding so positively to our ministry and leadership! Be blessed today and be a blessing in the love and grace of Jesus! Serving Him, Pastor Mike 2 DaytonUMC

A LETTER FROM YOUR YO U T H PA S TO R Hello Church Family. I am still learning names and faces, but I seem to be doing very well. Very busy currently this week, because this coming week is moving week. (I am writing this on Saturday, October 14). So, this coming week Heidi and I will be closing on our house in Ohio and closing on our house here in Lafayette. Our address will be 30 Watercrest Ct. The student ministry is going well here at Dayton UMC. We have been doing a series on Sundays nights called, Traveling Light Releasing the Burdens we were never intended to carry. Each Sunday Night we have been looking at a different Burden that we carry. Please continue to pray for the student ministry and the leaders. A LETTER FROM YOUR CHILDREN S PASTOR Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I m not sure where life has taken you recently, but I know at times it can be difficult to be thankful for your situation. Remember that thankfulness involves so much more than your current life. Paul praised God as he was locked in the inner chamber of a jail cell. Joseph continually praised God during the many trials he endured. God uses the trials in our life to mold us, refine us, and shape us. He doesn t send the trial, but He helps us through it. Try to remain thankful to God for the things He has done in your life. The trial will end in God s time. Remember the Casting Crowns song Praise You in the Storm. It is a great reminder that God is in control when it seems as though our life is not.. Be Blessed and be a blessing, Pastor Eric W E E K LY Orange Children s Ministry Sunday mornings During the 9:30 and 11:00 services in The Shop K I D S C H O I R Contact Beth Plybon or the church office if your child would like to join kids choir! NOTEWORTHY ITEMS CHRISTMAS JUBILEE Christmas Jubilee is a ministry at DUMC that provides gifts for less fortunate children in the Dayton and surrounding area. We provide the gifts that the families have requested, and we ask the adults in the family to join us in wrapping and personalizing each gift. We also provide an abundance of food for the families so they can have a delicious Christmas dinner. In addition, we send with them a full box of groceries to sustain them for many days. This is a blessed time to talk to the family members about the love of Christ and invite them to become a part of our church family. Our Christmas Jubilee is fast approaching when we will be fulfilling many children's wishes. We ask for your help and support. The tree of wishes will be in the foyer in November. Stop by the Christmas tree and select a tag with a gift listed on it, then return your gift with the tag to the church. I will try to have catalogs and pictures of ideas attached to tags. If it is easier, gift cards for hams or turkeys will be accepted. It takes the entire church to make this happen. Please consider what you can do to help. Volunteers are needed to shop, provide cookies and help on Saturday, December 9. If you can help in any way please call Sandy Guinn at 765-296-3986. DaytonUMC 5

Impact Basketball and Cheerleading is excited to kick off our second season. Thank you for everyone who contributed to make our first season such a success! The goal of this ministry is to draw people closer to Jesus through faith and athletics. We are a Christ-centered athletic program designed to further children s athletic ability, basketball or cheerleading skills, teamwork, and most importantly their relationship with Jesus. We welcome all skill levels. We offer teams for Kindergarten and First grade, Second and Third grade, and Fourth Sixth grade boys and girls. Sign ups are now open and run through mid-december. Skill evaluations will be held on Thursday November 16 th from 6:00-8:00 PM and Friday November 17 th from 6:00-8:00 PM. You only need to attend one session. Your participant will be able to try on uniforms for correct sizing and go through a skill evaluation to help us divide the teams as evenly as possible. If you have any questions about our league, please contact our children s pastor Eric Bailey at eric.bailey@daytonumc.org or 765-296-3155. League cost is $67.50 per participant with a $2.50 discount if you pay by cash or check. Register at https://goo.gl/pfvtiy 6 DaytonUMC
