Elstad ~ Highland Prairie Lutheran Parish A Congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ~ November 2018~ Pastor, Rev. Luther Mathsen Email: lmmathsen@gmail.com Church Phone: (507) 864-2731 Lisa Chiglo, Parish Secretary/Administrator ~ Email: highlandprairie_elstad@ymail.com Pastor s Page, November 2018 Box 262. That was the number of our mailbox in the days of my childhood. Each Saturday, I would accompany my father to town to get whatever was needed for house, home, and the farm. The trip always included a stop at the post office. My father enjoyed getting the mail. He seemed to look forward to a greeting from a family member, relative, or friend. This was always good news; news he enjoyed sharing with the rest of us. A letter was an encounter of grace, albeit in words of another. Our God comes to us in many ways. To the ear of faith, his letters ---his word---his good news is precious indeed. The encounter with him is a gentle knock at the door of the heart that becomes sacred and holy as one lives in his mercy, love, and kindness from day to day. Oh.There are times when we find ourselves reading God s letters in a casual and indifferent way. There are times when we cast his letters---his words---addressed to us aside. There are times we would rather not hear from him. He is undeterred. Our God is an indefatigable communicator. He never tires in sending us greetings of love and mercy.when we least expect it when we don t desire or deserve it. This is what God is very good at. And this is what he does to win our hearts so that we will look for his letters and his word and welcome him as the bringer of joyful life and holy peace.
