St. Ann s Parish 3rd Sunday of Advent December 11, 2016 In the beginning of November we held another tag sale here at St. Ann s. These tag sales are run by one of our teenagers, Freddy Carlsson, and his family. They donate all the proceeds to our parish. This most recent tag sale was very successful. By the 12 Noon Mass they were running out of items, and in all it brought in nearly $700! Thank you, Freddy and the Carlsson family plus your helpers, for a successful tag sale! I decided to use the money that was raised from the tag sale for your benefit. My current spiritual reading offering is a book called Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly, one of the most popular Catholic writers and evangelists of our own time. His works and many others can be found at www.dynamiccatholic.com as well as on FORMED at www.formed.org. In this book, he speaks of something we have all experienced: many people cease coming to Mass because they are bored in church. While some of the attempts to correct this well-discussed problem were not good, such as turning the Mass into an entertainment complete with clowns and acrobats (which did happen in some parishes!), there is a vital need to help people appreciate the beauty of what is happening at Mass. Many people say they don t get anything out of the Mass. While catechesis can help explain that the Mass is a ritual and not a revivalist meeting, therefore there is discipline to what we do and we should not be expecting merely a social gathering or a joy fest, there are things we as Catholics can do to help us find a personal contact with Jesus in the midst of the ritual of the Mass. A wonderful tool for this is Mass journaling. With the money raised from the tag sale, I purchased a number of Mass journals that you are free to use. All you need to do is bring it with you to Mass every time you come and write down one thing you have heard the Lord say to you during Mass that will help you be the best-version-of-yourself, and then reflect upon it during the week. It may be something you heard in a prayer or a hymn, in one of the readings, in the homily, or in your heart. Journaling is a proven means for people to feel that personal relationship with Jesus they often miss and that they truly desire. Because of the price of the journals I don t have enough for everyone, so please only take one if you know you will use it. If there are more people who want to use them I will happily order more, or you can purchase your own copy at www.dynamiccatholic.com. I encourage you to consider using the journal. See what a difference it can make in your life! Catholic Elementary School Open Houses December 13, 2016 - January 31, 2017 The Catholic School Region of Central Westchester invites you to experience Catholic Schools in action by visiting on a TOURING TUESDAY open house event.
