AET'S ATHARVA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING MALAD (W), MUMBAI-400095 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NSS ATHARVA UNIT: 1 UNIT STRENGTH: 50 ACADEMIC YEAR: 2015-2016 Program Officer: Prof. Kishor Parate ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7 DAYS NSS SPECIAL RESIDENTIAL CAMP ACTIVITIES PLACE: NATUROPATHY CENTRE, SHANTIVAN, Tq: PANVEL Dist: Raigad Date : 04 January to 10 January 2016 1) TREE PLANTATION: NSS volunteers planted nearly 50 trees in Naturopathy centre, Shantivan. Volunteers had a first hand experience of all the processes involved in tree plantation.volunteers took turns to see to it that all trees were daily watered on time.

2) CLEANLINESS DRI VE: On second day of the camp a cleanliness drive was organized by NSS team in Wakadi village and its surrounding outskirts.people were made aware of the dangers of having an unclean surrounding.nss members were divided in groups of four and door to door visit was held to spread awareness on diseases like dengue, malaria which are known to thrive in unclean environs.

3) INTERACTION WITH CHILDREN AND PARENTS IN WAKADI: Where team one was busy with cleanliness drive our team two members had started interacting with the kids from Wakadi.Initially they were not familiar with us and there was some understandable hesitance in their approach but once we started playing games with them they warmed up to us. Chocolates were distribited to all the children. We also had a quick review on what each on them wanted to be in future.information on various schemes provided by the governnment for education was relied to the parents.

4) SHRAMADAN AT NATUROPATHY CENTRE (digging of acupressure pool) After contacting the authorities of Naturopathy we were told they wanted volunteers to help them dig up an acupressure pool for the patients.nss team with the guidance of Naturopathy's caretakers started for this task.

5) OLD AGE HOME VISIT: RamKrishna Niketan,the old age home at Shantivan saw a visit by the NSS volunteers.various programs like bhajans,poem recitations were organized for the residents.even some games were played with them.nss volunteers arranged for distribution of fresh sugarcane juice for all.they had a great experience getting to interact with all the elders there and listening to there life experiences.volunteers had a fun time with these lively people who participated in dance and singing songs defying their age restrictions. 6) SEMINAR ON GENDER EQUALITY: Ms.Aarti Naik(Social worker-andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti) conducted a dynamic seminar on gender equality.various faces of our society were exposed to the volunteers.right from South India to our North Eastern gates how a woman is exploited under the religion banner was revealed.her seminar helped the volunteers to understand the necessity of having a male female status equality. The volunteers were highly impressed with her presentation and asked lot questions regarding how all this can be prevented.

7) SHRAMADAN AT RAMKRISHNA OLD AGE HOME: After the highly successful event at the old age home we again visited this place for cleaning up their premises and the surrounding gardens.nss team helped them by trimming grass,pulling out weed,collecting dry leaves.this was a great help to them as this task required lots of man power which we were able to provide. 8) SEMINAR ON SNAKE AWARENESS: A seminar on snake awareness was arranged for the NSS volunteers.raju Mumbaikar,chief speaker along with his team conducted this seminar.it was a wonderful experience when all the volunteers had a chance to the touch the snake for real.many misunderstandings regarding this reptiles were cleared.it was a very interactive session.mr. Mumbaikar in his unique style helped the volunteers to understand how we are a part of nature and not apart from it.

9) SHOOL VISIT NERE: We NSS Atharva got permission of adoption of a school of Kewale Village (Zilla Parishad Prathamik Shala,Kewale).At this visit we performed various activities which are described below : A) CAREER GUIDENCE: A short seminar on career guidance was arranged for the students of std.ix.they were made aware of the various career options they have on completing their SSC boards.detailed imformation was provided to the students on various streams like arts,commerce and science. B) WORKSHOP ON ORIGAMY: A small workshop was held for students of std V and VI.Beautiful models of flowers and various other designs were taught to them.students were very happy to see mundane pieces of papers turning into beautiful mementos. C) WORKSHOP ON COMPUTER AWARENESS: We had taken a projector with us and we used it in the school. Students studying there

were not aware of computer knowledge. NSS team taught them what is computer and how to use it. We gave the demos with the help of laptop and projector.we have shown some motivational videos especially on education. D) COMPETION: Various competitions like dance,singing and quiz competition etc. have been performd by NSS team with enthusiasm and passion. After end of all competition we have distributed prizes and chocolates to the students. E) MOTIVATION: For any success whether it is small or great success,everyone requires motivation.so we NSS team motivated the kids telling them various short stories,showing motivational videos.we asked them their aims and dreams and lit the fire for their dreams. 10) SEMINAR ON HISTORY OF GALAXY: BARC scientist Mr.Satish Takle headed a presentation on the mysterious history of our galaxy at Ashram Shala hall,shantivan.a wonderful presentation was put up where in all the information right from the birth of our planet to the the present age was shown.it was an interactive session.many questions on the concepts like ice age,black holes,etc were asked by the volunteers.all in all it was like a space voyage with our feet firmly on the ground. 11) SHRAM DAN AT NUROPATHY CENTRE: After contacting the authorities of Naturopathy we were told they wanted volunteers to help them dig up an acupressure pool for the patients.nss team with the guidance of Naturopathy's caretakers started for this task. 12) LEPROSY CENTRE VISIT: On day of our camp a leprosy centre visit was organized.the opportunity provided us to have a first hand knowlegde of the disease.the doctor present gave us an insight on the mthys and facts of the same.later we visited the residential patients.it was really awe-inspiring how these people carried out their day to day activities without feeling any hindrance due their illness. 13) SEAL ASHRAM VISIT: Situated at 3 kms from Nere chowk,seal ashram visit was organized on the second last day of

the camp.this ashram is at present home to 300 children,old people and various patients of hiv,mentally retarded people included.on the visit to Seal a video presentation was shown to the volunteers.it was really heart warming to see the efforts taken by the organization to help such people.volunteers were taken on a tour of the premises where they got to visit these people.towards the end chocolates were distributed.it fills one with hope when such we encounter such great social workets in our life. 14) STREET PLAY AT ASHRAM SHALA: A wonderful street play was performed by the NSS volunteers at the Ashram Shala grounds.students living in school hostel along with the teaching staff were present there.the topic of the street play was National integrity. 15) PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: We NSS Atharva are much focused on our goals and our goal is to serve for society through self personality development. Therefore we select one male and female leader for each day during camp. The sole purpose of this decision is to give equal chance to each and every student to develop his/her leadership qualities. 16) FELICITATION: We NSS team felicitated all staff members who were working there.we gave them vote of thanks through some beautiful posters for their treatment given to us during the 7 days camp.
