ADORATION General Announcements Search for the Lord and Your Soul Shall Live St. Augustine In order to give Himself to us, He hides Himself, no longer under the veils of mortal flesh, but under the appearances of bread and wine. He descends from His throne in Heaven to dwell in poverty and to be worshiped in simplicity, so that He may be visited by all and give Himself even to the poorest sinner. He lays aside even the dignity of man and becomes in appearance helpless, entirely at the disposal of man. It is His delight to be with the children of men, (Prov 8:31) What wealth is hidden beneath the thin, white veils of bread. The Sacred Host appears so frail and small, yet in its sacred sanctuary we see with eyes of faith our very God, our hidden God! Our Lord patiently expects our coming back to Him again and again. He calls us to a life of fuller faith and dedication. May our arrival in His presence not be delayed. Join us for Adoration. ***Tuesday Adoration now ends at 10:00 pm The time slot of Wednesdays, from 5:30-6:30 pm needs to be filled and Tuesdays from 5:00 6:00 pm. Please call Ruthann at 756-8551 if you can fill this time. CCW The Council of Catholic Women is ready to start the new season. We extend a friendly invitation to all women of the parish to our September 7th meeting at 10:30 am in the Doran Center. After the meeting we will attend 12:10 pm Mass, followed by lunch and the opportunity to visit with friends. Please bring a sack lunch. Coffee and dessert will be provided. Watch for our Pie Sunday/Bake Sale after the Masses on the weekend of September 16/17th. If you have any questions, call Judy O Boyle at 250-0795 or Shirley Sullivan at 257-4144. General Announcements ART & ENVIRONMENT THANK YOU Thank you to the many St. Matthew s parishioners who have been donating to the flower fund! Your generosity beautified our sanctuary during the liturgical seasons of Christmas, Easter and the Ordinary Time in between, for the glory of God, as well as presenting a pleasing welcome to worshippers. We appreciate your continued patronage. DONATION REQUEST The A & E committee would like to purchase two 15 life-like trees for the sanctuary at Christmas. The estimated cost is $1200. This would save many work hours of the positioning/ balancing of live trees, attaching lights, etc. It is especially urgent to have them for Christmas 2017, since the 4th Sunday of Advent is Christmas Eve, so hours of decorating must be condensed into a couple of hours. We are funded solely by donations, therefore we ask your consideration of this request. CHANGING OF THE GUARD We are in need of filling positions on the Art & Environment Committee. Requirements are few: a desire to serve Christ and parish; the ability and time to attractively enhance our sanctuary; a desire to fellowship with others in a rewarding work. While our prominent feasts, Easter and Christmas, call for the help of many parishioners to accomplish the task of decorating, weekend liturgies are a simpler task of arranging flowers for our serene and prayerful sanctuary. A recent study said that beauty is one of the significant reasons people are drawn to and stay with the Catholic Faith! A & E committee members are willing to train anyone inspired to join this ministry. We hope to have a new team in place this fall. Please call the parish office if you are available to serve in this vital ministry at St. Matthew. Page 4
