Luong Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy 3b The Holy Year will open on 8 December 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. This liturgical feast recalls God s action from the very beginning of the history of mankind. After the sin of Adam and Eve, God did not wish to leave humanity alone in the throes of evil. So he turned his gaze to Mary, holy and immaculate in love choosing her to be the Mother of man s Redeemer. When faced with the gravity of sin, God responds with the fullness of mercy. Mercy will always be greater than any sin and no one can place limits on the love of God who is ever ready to forgive. (continuing series.) St. Vincent de Paul Collection Next Sunday, August 30 Frances, a fifty year old self sufficient woman was gainfully employed and living in Palo Alto. Her daughter attended the Palo Alto Schools. Then living costs increased and she moved to Cupertino where houses and living costs at that time were more affordable. The last few years have been quite terrible for her. She had a car accident and her right leg was injured. She had surgery on the leg but the surgery did not go well and the leg did not heal properly. She lost her job and paying for the surgery became quite difficult for her. She needs another surgery, but she has no money to pay for it. She could no longer afford her home and began living with a woman in Cupertino who allowed her to stay the night and shower in the morning in exchange for some cleaning and ironing services. She cannot drive to Cupertino now because her car is badly in need of repair, so she stays in Palo Alto. Although she has multiple needs, she came to us asking for money to repair the brakes on her car. She has managed to find a job selling books and she desperately needs a car to deliver the books to her customers. Frances is a typical example of the people we help here in Palo Alto. There are many like her here in Palo Alto who are living on the edge. The goal of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is to offer tangible assistance to those in need on a person to person basis and to offer spiritual services. A key strength of the Society is in the personalized delivery of help. St. Vincent de Paul has thousands of volunteers all over the world, including St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. Your generosity in next Sunday s 2nd collection will assist our own local conference of St. Vincent de Paul to help our neighbors in need. Children's Liturgy Of The Word During the Sunday morning Masses (except on weekends when there is a Family Mass), children are dismissed from the assembly to hear the Gospel at their level of understanding, to talk about its meaning for their lives, and to pray. If your child is shy, you re welcome to go with them for the first time. We are in need of more leaders. Please call Susan Olsen at the Pastoral Center (ext. 25) or email suolsen@dsj.org
