Spiritual Habits (Part 2) Lesson 1 Workbook The Church: Belonging The Church found in Acts Acts 5:11 Acts 8:1 Acts 8:3 Acts 9:31 Acts 11:22 Acts 11:26 Acts 12:1 Acts 12:5 Acts 13:1 Acts 14:23 Acts 14:27 Acts 15:3 Acts 15:4 Acts 15:22 Acts 18:22 Acts 20:17 Acts 20:28 1. According to these verses, what is the Church? 2. What are some characteristics of the Church in the book of Acts? 3. Is there any mention of a building in the book of Acts? Is that what a church is? 4. How does the picture of the Church in Acts differ from your picture of the Church in our world today? 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 1. How does the illustration of the human body give insights into the body of Christ in this passage? 2. Verse 15 uses humor to illustrate a part of the body seeking not to belong. How does this relate to Christians? 3. How does verse 26 relate to the Church?

4. What does verse 27 mean to you? GATHER Hebrews 10:25 1. Why do you think the author of Hebrews urges people to meet together? 2. In this text, some have given up on that habit. Is it easy to do that? Explain. 3. How often do you gather with the Church? What priority do you think it takes in your life and schedule? GROW Acts 2:43-47 1. In what ways did the individual members of the church attempt to grow, according to this passage? 2. In what ways do you attempt to grow in your own spiritual life? 3. How is gathering a part of this growth? Are they related? 4. How are the individual members responsible for their own growth? 5. With all these individuals attempting to grow, what was the end result, according to verse 47?

Homework Memorize 1 Corinthians 12:27 Consider how you might be able to grow closer to the Church with the Gather and Grow approach. Some examples may be volunteer work, inviting others to church, joining a class or group that meets some day other than Sunday, etc. Try one of these during the next few weeks.

Spiritual Habits (Part 2) Lesson 2 Workbook The Church: Giving Acts 4:34-37 1. How would you categorize the spirit of giving in the early Church, as it relates to Acts 4:34-37? 2. What do you think it would be like if there weren t any needy people in the Church? 3. How does the generosity of Barnabas typify the giving spirit of the whole Church? 4. How does this level of giving compare to the modern-day church and the way we give? How does it compare to the way YOU give? 5. Just from these verses, what importance do you think giving has for those who belong to the Church? Acts 5:1-11 1. How is Ananias different from Barnabas? 2. Why do you think Ananias and Sapphire are judged so harshly? 3. How does selfishness often get in the way of the way you give?

4. Ananias and Sapphire gave a lot just not everything. Do you think the amount we give is as important as the heart with which we give it? Why/why not? 2 Corinthians 9:7 1. According to this verse, what is a poor motivation for giving? 2. According to this verse, what is a good motivation for giving? 3. Why do you think God looks at the heart of the giver more than the amount? GIVING: What Can I do? 1. Which do you think is more appropriate for our lives today giving a tenth or giving as generously as we can? Why do you think that way? 2. Why don t you think more people give generously of their money? How have we already discovered selfishness in the New Testament to be bad? 1 Timothy 6:10, Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 6:24 1. How would actually believing these verses change the Church? 2. How would actually believing these verses change YOU? 3. In what way can you give more more money to the Church? Why should you do it?

SERVING: What can I do? 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 1. According to these verses, where do our Spiritual Gifts originate? 2. According to these verses, how and why should we use our Spiritual Gifts? Homework Memorize 2 Corinthians 9:7 Think of one way you can serve the Church this week. Is there some unconventional way you can use your talents? Try giving, generously and cheerfully, this week. If nothing else, start with ten percent. This is a godly principle that will put you on the right track.

Spiritual Habits (Part 2) Lesson 3 Workbook The Church: Serving Deuteronomy 7:4 Deuteronomy 7:16 Joshua 22:5 Joshua 24:14-31 1 Samuel 7:3-4 Matthew 4:10 Matthew 6:24 Matthew 20:28 Luke 4:8 Romans 1:25 Romans 12:11 2 Corinthians 9:12-14 Galatians 5:13 Ephesians 4:11-13 1 Timothy 1:12 1 Peter 4:10 1. What importance does service seem to have? 2. From where should the heart of service come? 3. What are some of the obstacles or difficulties that come with serving? 4. What are some opportunities or doors that are opened through the act of service? 5. What is the ultimate goal of all of our efforts?

Making it Real: 1. What is something we could do right now to serve someone else? 2. What is something we could get together and do special for someone out in our community? 3. What is a way that you can serve the Church as an individual in an ongoing way? 4. What is something huge we can do together to make a difference in someone else s life, in the Church, or in our community? Homework Memorize Ephesians 6:7 Look for at least one area in your local church where you can serve during the coming month.
