PRAYER BEFORE DIVINE WORSHIP Lord, keep this nation under Your care. Bless the leaders of our land that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to the other nations of the earth. Grant that we may choose trustworthy leaders, contribute to wise decisions for the general welfare, and serve You faithfully in our generation; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. ORDER OF DIVINE WORSHIP (Please silence your cell phones and mobile devices during our worship time.) Pre-service Music Welcome and Announcements Opening Hymn, 966: Before You, Lord, We Bow Invocation Pastor: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Response: Amen. Confession and Absolution (based on Psalm 85, ESV) Pastor: Lord, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. Response: You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin. Pastor: You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your hot anger. Response: Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us! Pastor: Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. Response: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Response: Amen. Page - 2 -
Litany of Response (based on Psalm 85, ESV) Pastor: Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him that glory may dwell in our land. Response: Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky. Pastor: Yes, the Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. Response: Righteousness will go before him and make his footsteps a way. Hymn of Response: Battle Hymn of the Republic vv. 1, 4-5 Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored, He has loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword He has sounded from the trumpet that shall never call retreat He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on.
