CHILDREN S SPACE Each week the children enjoy their own special time of worship and creativity and if you would like to join them please meet in the children s area at the back of the Cathedral. Please note that there will be no Children s Space next Sunday the 28th due to school holidays. PRAYER MINISTRY (a new name for Healing Prayer) will be available today immediately after communion. If you would like someone to pray with you, either for yourself or someone you know, please go the Lady Chapel or Holy Spirit Chapel, behind the altar, where people will be there to pray with you. THE FLOWERS TODAY have been given by Jacquie Bennett SAYING GOODBYE SERVICE tonight at 4pm. Bradford Cathedral will hold the fifteenth in a set of national remembrance services for people who have experienced baby loss, whether during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy. Nearly 20 services will be held around the UK, allowing bereaved parents, families and friends to join together in acknowledging and remembering babies that have gone too soon. The services are organised by The Mariposa Trust, which held its first service in 2012, and celebrated its 100 th service at the end of 2017 in Westminster, London. The charity now provides support that reaches over 50,000 people each week through its six divisions offering support through baby loss, pregnancy after baby loss, fertility, adoption and more. If you or anyone you know has been affected by the loss of a child do let them know and come along to the service. Those who have attended in the past have found the service to be a great comfort and help. ALPHA COURSE Alpha starts on Thursday 1 st November at 4.30pm. There is a planning and preparation meeting this Tuesday 23 October at 7pm at Canon Mandy s House (No 2 The Close), and if you are interested in helping to host Alpha, then please speak to Canon Mandy. DEANERY HOME GROUP will meet this Tuesday from 7.15pm 9pm at No 3 Cathedral Close not in the Deanery. Even if you haven t been to any of the other sessions and would like to join in do go along, as each session stands on its own and you do not need to have been to other ones to be a part of the evening, which is varied with opportunity for discussion. All are welcome and for further details please speak to either Sarah Maybury or Christine Lepine. HALF-TERM ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN at the Cathedral. Our new Education and Visitors Officer Maggie Myers has arranged some family activities over half-term. These are to be on WEDNESDAYS 24 and 31 OCTOBER from 10am 11.15am and 2.15pm 3.30pm and will involve paper craft activities in the South Trancept. Be inspired by our beautiful stained glass windows and have a go at making your own, or maybe design a shield, using the Cathedral shields as inspiration. There is no charge, but parents do have to stay with their children. This is a new venture which promises to be fun for all who go.

CATHEDRAL COMPANIONS training evening is on Wednesday 24 October at 7pm. If you would like to be part of the scheme there are forms available near the main entrance and please speak to Canon Mandy for more information. If you would like someone remembered in this way, please add their name and yours, to the list at the back of the Cathedral on the sound desk. The annual FESTIVAL OF REMEMBRANCE for the City, is to be held in the Cathedral on Sunday 4 November at 5pm. This year the evening will feature the City of Bradford Brass Band, the Military WAGS Choir from Catterick Garrison, community hymn singing and the parade of standards. The Service of Remembrance will be led by our own Cathedral Choir. This year has the deeply significant Centenary celebration of the end of World War 1, which will be recognised during the evening. Tickets are free and are available from either the Cathedral Office or Eventbrite by logging on to www.eventbrite SYLVIA ROSS is taking part in the Bradford City 5k run on 28 October for the Stroke Association. This is a very worthwhile cause and if you would like to sponsor her, a form to do so is at the back of the Cathedral on the sound desk. BELL RINGING ON ARMISTICE SUNDAY 11 NOVEMBER Nationally all the bells in Britain will be rung at 12.30pm on Sunday 11 November to mark the end of the war. CHOCOLATE There is FREE chocolate on the Fairtrade Stall again today. Our last tasting session was very popular (no surprise really!) so do go along and try and maybe buy! Boxes of the samples are just 50p. ADVENT CALENDARS Christmas may seem a long way off, but in order to avoid disappointment, we are soon to put in our order for Advent Calendars. There are three styles to choose from. The Real Meaningful Chocolate Advent Calendar, has a Fairtrade milk chocolate behind each window and a small Christmas activity Book ( 3.99); The Divine Milk Chocolate Advent Calendar, which has a Fairtrade milk chocolate for each day ( 3.99); The Divine Dark Chocolate Advent Calendar ( 4.99). The cocoa beans for the Divine calendars are harvested from Kuapa Kokoo, a Fairtrade co-operation of smallholder farmers in Ghana. Calendars are only available to order and we are asking that if you would like a calendar/calendars that you do so at the Fairtrade Stall BY NEXT SUNDAY 28 October. Payment can be either on ordering or on collection. Details and pictures of the calendars are available on the Fairtrade Stall. Thank you. UNDERCLIFFE CEMETERY PROJECT When Church Bank was created at the end of the 19 th Century, 1400 graves were removed to Undercliffe Cemetery, where a new mass grave was created. Over the years, however, this grave has sadly been lost in the undergrowth which has overtaken parts of the Cemetery. A conservation team has recently re-discovered this mass grave and would like to do some restoration work on it, which will be organised by the Trustees of Undercliffe Cemetery Charity, but needs some financial support to make this happen. This work is a really good piece of community engagement and I have been asked if the Cathedral might ask for donations towards the work, which will be carried out by the volunteers who are clearing parts of this wonderful heritage Cemetery. The idea would be to do the work in the new year and I would rededicate this mass grave next Summer. We are aiming to raise 750 in support of the required work and if you would like to make a donation towards the Cathedral s response to this project, please put your gift in an envelope marked Undercliffe Cemetery. Gifts can be gift aided and cheques should be made payable to Bradford Cathedral please. Many thanks. Dean Jerry CALENDARS FOR SUDAN We have some 2019 calendars in the shop area to raise funds for our Sudan Link. They contain some stunning photographs and are just 5 for the large edition and 3 for the smaller one. If you would like one, please put your money into the shop slot in the blue safe. 01274 777720 Bradford Cathedral, Stott Hill, BD1 4EH www.bradfordcathedral.org stpeterbradford @Bfdcathedral
