09-25-2016 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Amos 6:1a, 4-7 1 Timothy 2:11-16 Luke 16:19-31 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, A Message from Father Don The parables of Jesus help us to see things more clearly, with the eyes of faith. In today s Gospel, Jesus describes the eternal reward of Lazarus and the punishment of the rich man. Lazarus suffered a life of misfortune and misery but did not lose hope in God. His eyes were set on a treasure stored up for him in heaven. The rich man, however, could not see beyond his material treasure. He not only had every thing he needed, he indulged his wealth to excess without noticing the needs of others around him. He lost sight of God, thinking only of material gains. What we do to others we do to God. This week spend some quiet time reflecting on this parable. Discern if you, like the rich man, sometimes forget God s word about sharing what you have with the poor. As you get caught up in your own busy life, do you sometimes ignore or see right through the people in our community who are in need? Together with your family determine concrete ways you can show that you have heard Jesus warning about ignoring Lazarus. What changes do you need to make so you will know the joy and freedom of possessing God as your only treasure? Building Fund plans are underway for our new Family Life Center.
