By Mark Nepo The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 3 January 29, 2017

Psalm 15 We STAND and say the Psalm responsively. Lord, who may dwell in your tabernacle? who may abide upon your holy hill? Whoever leads a blameless life and does what is right, who speaks the truth from his heart. There is no guile upon his tongue; he does no evil to his friend; he does not heap contempt upon his neighbor. In his sight the wicked is rejected, but he honors those who fear the Lord. He has sworn to do no wrong and does not take back his word. He does not give his money in hope of gain, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things shall never be overthrown. All are now SEATED for the second Reading. Second Reading (9:30am) I Corinthians 1:18-31 Reader People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. After the Gospel the will say People The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Gospel Matthew 5:1-12 The Homily The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 5 January 29, 2017

OUR RESPONSE TO THE STORY We STAND and say together these words. We believe in God above us, maker and sustainer of all life, of sun and moon, of water and earth, of male and female. We believe in God beside us, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, Born of a woman s womb, servant of the poor. He was tortured and nailed to a tree. Knowing full passion and deep sorrow, he died forsaken. He descended into the earth to the place of death. On the third day he rose from the tomb. He ascended into heaven to be everywhere present. And his Kingdom will one day be known. We believe in God within us, The Holy Spirit of pentecostal fire, Life-Giving breath of the Church, She is the Spirit of healing and forgiveness, Source of resurrection and life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of the People We remain STANDING as we pray Gathering Leader "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. All May we welcome the ever growing light of Jesus. Gratitude Leader Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. We give thanks for the beauty of our world. We pause for prayers to be spoken quietly and in our hearts. The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 6 January 29, 2017

Discovery Team Leader For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. Inspire us to listen to one another as we share our hopes and values for our future. We pause for prayers to be spoken quietly and in our hearts. Leadership Leader What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Light of Christ, draw us together in our diversity; support our leaders that they work to find the common good for all. We pause for prayers to be spoken quietly and in our hearts. Humanity Leader Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Jesus, Healer, help us care for each other in body and mind. We pause for prayers to be spoken quietly and in our hearts. Prayer Requests Leader Rise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. Be our guide and our light as we walk through the dark times of our lives. Closing Leader All We pause for prayers to be spoken quietly and in our hearts. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. May we become the light for others. The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 7 January 29, 2017

The Peace We continue with this act of community - sharing of God s peace. People The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. The Offertory Sentence You are invited to offer your gifts of money for the work of the church. God, the source of all good things, has given to us all that we need. In joyful response, we offer our gifts, the fruit of our labors. Kindness is of Utmost Importance If we want there to be peace in the world, then we have to take responsibility when our own hearts and minds harden and close. We have to be brave enough to soften what is rigid, to find the soft spot and stay with it. We have to have that kind of courage and take that kind of responsibility. That s true spiritual warriorship. That s the true practice of peace. By Pema Chödron The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 8 January 29, 2017

As we finish exchanging God s peace with each other, we STAND as we sing together A Song to Offer In Christ There is a Table Set for All The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 9 January 29, 2017

THE CELEBRATION OF OUR SACRED MEAL Once the Table is set with the gifts of our hearts and hands we remember God s extraordinary gift of welcome and love, and we ask that once again the ordinary things of life bread, wine, ourselves would be vehicles of that welcome. All All All The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. From before time you made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being: sun, moon and stars; earth, wind and waters; and every living thing. You made us in your image, male and female, and taught us to walk in your ways. But we rebelled against you, and wandered far away. And yet, as a mother cares for her children, you would not forget us. Time and again you called us to live in the fullness of your love. And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity lifting our voices to you as we sing: Abingdon Press, admin. by The Copyright Co. Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living God. To deliver us from the power of sin and death and to reveal the riches of your grace, you looked with favor upon Mary, your willing servant, that she might conceive and bear a son, Jesus, the holy child of God. Living among us, Jesus loved us. He broke bread with outcasts and sinners, healed the sick and proclaimed good news to the poor. He yearned to draw all the world to himself yet we were heedless of his call to walk in love. Then, the time came for him to complete upon the cross the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified by you. On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again he gave thanks to you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you: This is the cup of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Now, gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen, who was and is and is to come, we offer you our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living sacrifice. Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the world you have made. In the fullness of time bring us, with all your saints from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet of the world. All this we ask through Jesus Christ. By him and with him and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and forever. Amen. The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 11 January 29, 2017

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray, People and Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread The breaks the consecrated Bread and a period of silence is kept. The silence is broken with these words. All Alleluia, Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, Alleluia. Now we are invited to share the gifts of communion. The extends that invitation by saying The Gifts of God for the People of God All are invited to receive the bread and the wine. Please know that at Grace Church this common meal is for all who feel moved to receive. This sacrament is God s gift to all, and is not tied to membership, doctrine or creed. Please assist the Chalice Bearers by tipping the cup from the base. Please tell your server if you prefer a wafer that is free from gluten, soy and dairy. The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 12 January 29, 2017

Music During Communion We are the Light of the World We are invited to share the sounds of silence with one another. The quiet will last a few minutes and will begin and end with a bell. For all of us, young and otherwise, these simple moments of stillness are offered as a chance to find ourselves held in the timeless presence of God. The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 13 January 29, 2017

Song after Communion Thank You for Loving Me (9:30am) We stay SEATED and sing together. By Sinead O Connor GOING OUT INTO THE WORLD The and People STAND and say together Our Common Prayer Eternal God, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us the strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 14 January 29, 2017

The Blessing The offers this blessing followed by a hymn that deserves the brightest and best of our voices. May the love of God uphold you; the light of Christ guide you; and the Holy Spirit fill you with joy, now and forever. Amen. Closing Song I am Walking a Path of Peace (9:30am) Birthdays and Anniversaries We may be SEATED for announcements. Announcements Please make only those announcements not printed in the bulletin. Dismissal We send ourselves forward and home with these words. Leader Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Let us go forth into the world rejoicing in the power of the Spirit! People Thanks be to God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! The 4 th Sunday After Epiphany Page 15 January 29, 2017
