THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOD OF CHRIST JUNE 3, 2018 Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, As we come to the end of May and now begin June, we have just left a month where we celebrate our Blessed Mother, which is why we had the May Crowning by our First Communicants. One story of our Blessed Mother that we should be familiar with is the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas. The basics of the story are simple in that a poor farmer named Juan Diego encountered Our Lady on a numerous occasions. Her request was to have a chapel built in a certain place where she appeared to the future Saint. The Bishop of the time did not believe him. To prove this, Juan Diego was instructed to go to the top of a hill where he found in the middle of frost season beautiful roses that should not have been able to grow. Arranged by Our Lady in his outer garment (called a tilma), Juan Diego brought these to the Bishop as a sign. However, after dropping the roses on the floor in front of the Bishop as proof, their eyes were drawn to the tilma, where the imprint of Our Lady that we see above was and still is today in the chapel in Mexico. So powerful and rich in symbolism was this image that it did what no missionaries could do at the time, convert millions of indigenous Indians in Mexico to Catholicism. But this isn t the end of the story. In 2001, an article was written on something only visible with the help of modern day science to help us in the 21 st century to appreciate this miracle even more. I ll quote part of the article here, but encourage you to look into this more deeply: For over 20 years, [a] graduate of environmental systems engineering of Cornell University has studied the image of the Virgin left on the rough maguey fiber fabric of Juan Diego s tilma. What intrigued [engineer José Aste Tonsmann of the Mexican Center of Guadalupan Studies] the most were the eyes of the Virgin. Though the dimensions are microscopic, the iris and the pupils of the image s eyes have imprinted on them a highly detailed picture of at least 13 people, Tonsmann said. The same people are present in both the left and right eyes, in different proportions, as would happen when human eyes reflect the objects before them. Tonsmann says he believes the reflection transmitted by the eyes of the Virgin of Guadalupe is the scene on Dec. 9, 1531, during which Juan Diego showed his tilma, with the image, to Bishop Juan de Zumárraga and others present in the room. In his research, Tonsmann used a digital process used by satellites and space probes in transmitting visual information. He insists that the image that has not been painted by human hand. As early as the 18th century, scientists showed that it was impossible to paint such an image in a fabric of that texture. The ayate fibers used by the Indians, in fact, deteriorated after 20 years. Yet, the image and the fabric it is imprinted on have lasted almost 470 years ago. * Our Lady of Guadalupe pray for us God Bless, Fr. (MARK 14:23) Jesus, the perfect steward, gave thanks, just before He gave Himself to us completely for our salvation. He offers us the chance to drink from His cup. In the Eucharist, we meet Christ personally and, if we listen to Him, we know what drinking from His cup means our own sacrifice giving up some of our time, talent and treasure to do His work on earth.

PARISH YARD/PLANT SALE: We are still in need of help for our yard/plant sale, which will be held on June 16th with a rain date of June 17th. In order to make this happen though, we need volunteers to help out. We will be in need of plants, so as you are cleaning out your gardens, perhaps you could pot up some perennials for the sale. We will also be relying on parishioner s to donate items for the sale. We had an overwhelming response last year (THANK YOU!) And raised well over $3,000.00 for the parish. This year we will not able to take books (except children's), electronics, heavy furniture or clothing. Drop off for goods will be Friday afternoon/night (more details to follow). In order to make this happen though, we need volunteers, so if you could spare some time on Friday the 15th to sort out goods or Saturday the 16th, please email Donna at donnaevans0407@gmail.com, or call 774-364-1400. If you have any questions, please feel free to call. Once again, thank you for your anticipated help to make this happen!
