ACTIVITY 2 Bible Review Younger (K-2) Teacher Note: This is a discussion activity. The topic of the Holy Spirit can be challenging for children to understand. Use this time to dig into the Bible with your children while encouraging discussion about the Holy Spirit. What You Need: Bibles, Light Bulb Papers, Pens or Pencils GIVE each child a light bulb paper and markers or pencils. EXPLAIN that a light bulb needs power to shine brightly. The same is true for those of us who follow Jesus. We need His power (the Holy Spirit) to help us make good choices and to bless others. As the children are listening to the Bible verses, encourage them to write or draw ways they can rely on the Spirit s power this week to bless others. READ John 14:25-27 DISCUSS Jesus knew that the disciples would be afraid after Jesus left because they would feel alone. Jesus promised the Spirit to the disciples so the disciples would have help to be strong and courageous, and preach the Word of God boldly and to follow God s commands. With the Holy Spirit, we have the power to follow God where He leads. How can you listen to the Holy Spirit today? READ Acts 1:4-5 DISCUSS Acts starts with Jesus giving the apostles some directions. What gift were the apostles about to receive? (the Holy Spirit) READ Acts 1:8 DISCUSS Jesus told the apostles about the power they would receive. What is this power? What did Jesus tell them they are to do with the power? (the power of the Holy Spirit, to be witnesses for Jesus) READ Acts 2:1-4 DISCUSS The apostles obeyed Jesus and stayed together. How do you think the apostles felt when they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit? DISCUSS The apostles who followed Jesus received the Holy Spirit, and so do those of us who follow Jesus today. We know that God sent the Holy Spirit to give us strength and courage, and to help us follow Him even when it s hard. How can you rely on the Holy Spirit when things are hard? How can you rely on the Spirit s power to bless others this week? Jellyfish One grants permission to churches, schools, and other licensees to edit What's in the Bible?
