Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Leigh Clark Minister of Music & Youth Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear church family and friends, The mind, in spite of all we know, is still a great mystery. Even though the human brain weighs only 3 pounds, it uses about 20% of the calories we consume and 20% of the oxygen. As our brain goes, so we go. The Apostle Paul says in I Thess. 5:23 May your whole spirit, soul [mind] and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The mind dramatically affects my physical and spiritual wellbeing. If my thinking and mind are healthy, it can remove spiritual barriers. Sometimes Christians can mistake every problem as a purely spiritual problem. That means the problem either boils down to my personal sin or lack of faith, alone. If only I trusted God more. If only I tried harder. If only I had more faith. I need to repent. How often have we said those things to ourselves? This misunderstanding can keep us stuck and heap on loads of unnecessary guilt. It also cuts us off from a solution. God made us as part body, part mind, and part spirit. We are not just spiritual beings. Our bodies have needs. Our minds have needs. Our spirits have needs. All are important and valid. On May 8 29, I will preach a four-sermon series called Healing the Mind. My desire is to explore what the Bible teaches about the mind and promote healing in our minds. My prayer is that it will also free up places in our lives where we are stuck and deepen our faith in God in new ways. The titles for the Healing the Mind sermon series are: Conquering Negative Thoughts, Facing Depression, Four Resources, and Equipping Church and Family. You are personally invited! Come with an open heart and mind and see what God can do! From Leigh April 27 Reuben Swindall I am so thankful for the many people who serve faithfully in our music ministry. On many occasions I am reminded of how blessed we are as a church to have so much talent even beyond, especially beyond music! Where we really excel, though, is in willingness yes, willingness! If people have talent but aren t willing to share it and use it, how does that help the church or the Kingdom? However, we have people who are awesome teachers, who love children, who are outstanding cooks, people who love to clean, garden, greet, pray, write cards, give hugs...the list goes on and on. Bottom line, what is your gift, your passion? Are you using it in the church? What are you waiting for? Pray about it and then do something about it! We are in for a treat on Sunday morning! The Singing Sunbeams are going to ring and sing during worship. Debbie and Donna do an outstanding job with this group of children. And, our FLOCK members are wearing their prom attire to church this is always a special day. Last Sunday evening, the youth and I studied about John, son of Zebedee. Christ saw the potential in him even though he was young and immature. Christ nurtured him and taught him about discipleship and about serving. In 1 Timothy, Paul tells Timothy to not to let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. Thank you for the way you support our children and youth and for encouraging them to take part in all aspects of church. I am praying for you this week; pray for each other, too. Blessings, Leigh The months of May and June will be filled with opportunities for everyone to help send our missionary team to Gainesville, FL. Stay tuned! And, please pray for our team and for all of the preparations that are required and for the people of Greater Faith Baptist Fellowship! May 1 May 2 GRADUATES Mike Winters Roger Viers April 27 Stan & Brenda Kunigelis April 30 Archie & Joanne Kennedy On Sunday, May 8, we will recognize all of our high school and college graduates during our morning worship service.
