Anointing of the Sick The weekend of February 10 & 11 we will celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. Usually those who choose to be anointed are people who are seriously or chronically ill, having impending surgery or elderly people who have become notably weakened. This sacrament will be administered at all the Masses and can be received more than once. Community Thanksgiving Dinner: 2017 The 4th Installment As you may have read from previous bulletin announcements, the town of Wilsonville, has a quaint little church that has long taken an active part in helping those in the community who may need food, money, and occasional lodging. In 2014, the generosity of the parishioners of St. Cyril, sparked an effort to provide a Community Thanksgiving Dinner in the parish hall. And lo, and behold, our participation and outreach steadily grew to reach those who could benefit. By 2017, advertisements were in the form of listings in 3 neighboring church bulletins, flyers handed out at 2 local food banks, flyers posted and handed out at the Wilsonville Senior Center, its Public Works Building and the Public Library. Not surprisingly, the parishioners themselves continued to spread the news by word of mouth. The traditional menu was served as in years past. The volunteers streamed in and were given tasks. There were even some who came on the spur of the moment. Our efforts were met with approval from young, old, rich, poor, those with and without family. We had a steady stream of guests who would otherwise have had no such meal or fellowship. St. Cyril Thanksgiving Dinner 2017 72 dinners served in the hall 60 takeout dinners $711.18 total spent on food and preparations = $5.38 per dinner Thank you to all who made this such a heartwarming endeavor, either by your monetary gift or the gift of yourself during preparation, serving, delivery, or cleanup. Thank you Martha s Circle We would like to thank the women and men of Martha s Circle for all their assistance with the funeral reception for Mary Kay Brown. Having the reception after the funeral Mass provided such a warm and welcoming place and atmosphere for our family and friends to gather and share precious time. We appreciate all you did for this event. Brown and Leavy Families

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL Our food pantry is in need of the following items: cereal, chili, spaghetti sauce & pasta, ravioli, canned fruits, jam and jelly, laundry soap. Today is the "Souper Bowl of Caring"! Please support the youth group of our church by dropping off a dollar in the soup pots or dropping off food items (in place of Bountiful Baskets this weekend) in the boxes provided at both church doors. The food and money goes to those who are hungry and hurting. Thank you for your generosity. SOUPER BOWL OF CARING This weekend, February 3 & 4 is also the Souper Bowl of Caring weekend during which our youth group and Confirmation candidates will join with many other young people in churches across the country to collect both food and money for hungry and hurting people. Please give generously as all food donations will be given to our St. Vincent de Paul pantry and all money collected will be used to help needy people who come to our church office door. Our homeless visitors especially appreciate pop-top canned tuna, ready to eat bagged tuna or chicken salad, spam, chicken, beef or turkey jerky, single serve fruit cups, granola bars, small packs of crackers, trail mix and nuts. Thank you for your generosity in supporting this youth service Father Joseph Saal Council 15640 Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Greg Dahinden 503-313-5856 Membership Pat Schiermeyer 425-785-7994 Financial Secretary Bob Ruggiero 503-504 1809 General Meeting 7 PM the First Monday of each Month -Officers 6:30 PM Last Tuesday of month REFLECTION Many voices ask for our attention. There is a voice that says, "Prove that you are a good person." Another voice says, "You'd better be ashamed of yourself." There also is a voice that says, "Nobody really cares about you," and one that says, "Be sure to become successful, popular, and powerful." But underneath all these often very noisy voices is a still, small voice that says, "You are my Beloved, my favor rests on you." That's the voice we need most of all to hear. To hear that voice, however, requires special effort; it requires solitude, silence, and a strong determination to listen. That's what prayer is. It is listening to the voice that calls us "my Beloved." Henri Nouwen February 4, 2018 Page 5

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY "SOUPER BOWL OF CARING" Members of our Middle School and High School youth groups as well as Confirmation candidates will hold soup pots at church doors on Super Bowl weekend masses February 3rd and 4th. They will join young people in churches all across the country to collect food and money for those who are hungry and hurting. More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat. Since that day, more than $135 million has been raised for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement that is transforming the time around Super Bowl weekend into the nation s largest celebration of giving and serving. Be part of this movement that is sharing God s love with those in need. Please give generously on Super Bowl Sunday. Every food item donated goes to St. Cyril Catholic Church chapter of Saint Vincent de Paul, and all money collected will be used to help the needy who come to our church office door. Please support the youth of our church in this effort to love our neighbors by dropping your dollar in the soup pot on Souper Bowl Sunday or dropping food items in the boxes provided at both church doors. Our homeless visitors especially appreciate pop-top canned tuna, ready to eat bagged tuna or chicken salad, spam, chicken, beef or turkey jerky, single serve fruit cups, granola bars, small packs of crackers, trail mix and nuts. Through this mission, young people learn what it s like to make a positive difference in the world. ASH WEDNESDAY IS FEBRUARY 14TH It is really easy to remember when the season of Lent begins this year because Ash Wednesday falls on St. Valentine s Day Feb. 14th. Just tell yourself that your heart belongs to Jesus and you will have a great start to our most prayerful time of the year. Lent is a season of reflection and devotion to God. We fast on that day and on Fridays during lent we abstain from eating meat. We can pray the Stations of the Cross and come to our parish soup suppers on Fridays. We try to remember to help other people out, to feed the poor, and to pray more often. February 4, 2018 Page 6
